Default When were we all dying of ink?

Watching The Larkins tonight and they were at the seaside eating fish and chips in newspaper.

I remember when we were told we weren't allowed chips in newspaper anymore.

Oh no! Ink on your fingers! Eek!

Why?

I think it was because so many folk read the paper in the loo and it was then sent to the chippie to wrap the fish and chips!!! (Unless it was put on the nail in the loo; very good use in Covid times when the loo rolls were not available).
Now we all take our phones/tablets or whatever to the loo to consult the same "Health & Safety " issue doesn't arise but also no where near as many newspapers are sold!

Friday night treat back in the 60's was a 'Bob mix' (shilling) you got half a fish, huge portion of chips, peas, scraps & a barm cake wrapped in the New of the World at our local chippy

Actually, what you say is not true. You can eat your fish & chips out of the loo pan if you so wish. No one will care.
People were advised not to eat out of newspaper.

Selling is another matter - that is where regulations take effect in the interest of public safety.

Remind me never to borrow your mobile phone, fellow Suffolk citizen.

Our local chippie was right next to the bus stop, so always had a bag of chips on the way home from a "night on the town"! Salt and vinegar and scraps on of course! I used to lift and drop the dustbin lid very quietly on the way in!
