I find that a tad strange. I sold the 75 because we found it too low to get in and out of. Without any research I bought.....an Astra. To find these cars number 1 and 2 high milers is just weird.

The 1.7 Isuzu diesel engine in the Astra was bullet proof and thoroughly reliable. But also not that refined compared with modern units.

I can readily understand the Astra being good for high mileage. My company car in the late-80s, early-90s was a special edition petrol Astra. When it (and I) retired there was 340K miles on the clock, during which neither the clutch nor its cylinder were touched - double-declutching up and down from day 1- and the head was never lifted. All that at 39mpg. I was sorry to see it go, what with its Recaro-style seats and eye-catching purple metallic paint job....until I bought the Rover 75.
