Sorry to hear this. Having issues with postal services/customs myself, raised a claim and advised because this is international, resolution could take up to 60 days. Track & trace, doesn't live up to its name.

If it weren't for delivery negligence/customs I'd lend you my genuine 190 tools, or you could collect from Arlanda

If you can track down the 2.0KV6 horseshoes, the pins can be taken out and inserted on the other side, which are then in 190 correct position.

This is what I did when changing the distribution with my son on his ZT190. It was already timed ok, no changes in camshaft positions. Running beautifully after over a year and 15.000km.

I have the genuine mg tools if you are stuck and might be in Iver Heath for 2 days next week if thats any good?

Yes, thanks Rob. The ZT's owner does have the 2.0 horseshoes but the pins are welded in place so it would be a job for an engineering workshop.

Hello Dave,

I will pass this on to the ZT-T's owner and see what he says. The current plan is to fit a replacement exhaust camshaft this coming Sunday so provided that goes smoothly and he's free to work on his car at the same time as you're in Iver Heath ....

I'll get back to you by PM. Thanks for your offer.

Update: Unfortunately the short time that Dave is in the area means that it would not be practical for us to borrow his tooling and safely return in to him so we're still looking.

Hello Stefan,

Earlier this week the ZT-T's owner took his Laser 2.0 litre horseshoes to an engineering business to have the welds drilled and the pins removed and remounted from the other side as Phil-T4 advised.. They did an excellent job and it was inexpensive so I can recommend this solution to any 180 or 190 owners.

So yesterday we set the timing from scratch as two camshafts had been replaced, one on each bank. With the front tooling fitted and the crankshaft pin inserted, the answer to your question Stefan is as you predicted. Just like the 177 Ps Rover engine, the rear sprocket notches are slightly displaced. We therefore used the same method of fitting the front belt first then removing the tooling and rotating the engine very slightly so that the rear notches aligned, and they did!

The crucial difference was that the rear notches were now in alignment on both banks. Previously, when the Rover 2.5 litre horseshoes had been used it was only possible to align them on one bank! The engine we're working on is a 180 Sports Auto which definitely requires the 190 horseshoes (or, in their absence, the 2.0 litre part with pins inserted from the other side). People should be aware that both Laser and Sealey have instructed 180 owners, incorrectly, to use the 2.5 litre horseshoes on 180 engines.

Simon, do those instructions perhaps relate to the MG ZS 180 (which is same as 75 2.5 177) rather than the ZT 180 Auto?

EDT - quick look at my Sealey instructions, only mentions ZT/ZT-T 190 needing different adapters, no mention of what other models require. Looks like an oversight on their part.
