It's well worth doing a few other "performance"/maintenance mods while you're at it. The likes of replacing the intercooler o-rings (Vitron) , cleaning the EGR valve, replacing the PCV and giving the air inlet manifold a good clean.

Cheers

Wouldn't worry too much about what map it is as long as the cars enjoyable to drive.

He's already called and he's very happy. No-one has the franchise on reputations; his guy presumably has a reputation too.

Which legislation is contravened when an EGR is blanked? I only ask as one of the reputable traders who Mats refers to above, told me to blank off mine whilst he was carrying out his remap on my CDTi without a trailer and dyno. I'm now worried.

Absolutely right. It's so important for traders to provide actual dyno evidence of their remap bhp claims and not just rely on happy customers.

Funnily enough it isn't illegal to blank off the EGR, but it is widely reported that it is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet.

Can't see you going to jail over it though.

My EGR is blanked off and has been like that for several years now.

Never had an issue with it.

Of course you haven't. There is no legislation under the C&U or RTA regs which makes it an offence. If the car wasn't complying with emissions, there would be, but unless it was obliterating the horizon, it would be dealt with at MoT time.

That's about the most sensible thing I've read here for a long time on this subject, Kev. Everyone gets all prickly and defensive over... what? My guy's better than your guy?

I remember my Stage 1 conversion on my first Mini when I was 17. I took the hub caps and air filter off.

As long as the extra torque doesn't kill off an aging clutch everything is fine.----------- New clutch parts over here Sir.
