There was some talk about insurance companies being taken to task over this, something like the PPi scandal with banks.
As I have said on numerous occasions before the UK car insurance services are not fit for purpose, the public are being taken for a ride (ha ha), and the whole industry is long overdue for a review, we have all long been paying for the 'GTi' culture of the eighties, so always do a comparison, and forget loyalty.

Another vote for renewing early from me. It pays to do this.

Thumbs down Never gone down......

In all my 40 years of driving I cannot recall any insurance renewal premium being reduced due to NCB, or for just being a loyal customer. The premiums have always been higher, this was even before comparison web sites were around, even the internet (OMG, I is old). The trouble nowadays is when you get insurance via comparison sites they are always looking for new victims, so offer a reduced premium then when it comes for renewal it suddenly shoots up to mortgage rates.
The AA for example, you can get first time full breakdown cover for about £90..ish Come the renewal it shoots up to full price £240..ish

Exact same happened to me with Tesco last year.
This year my renewal premium came in £20 lower than all the comparison sites. Maybe they flagged my file?

This year My Saga policy for the Zed went up 21 quidish for no reason .

Rang up moaned and straight away got a " Discretionary" 10% off so ended up almost the same as last year .

then a couple weeks back got an Email saying I had been overcharged by 18 pounds ? and got that paid very soon after ? .

Pass on what went on ?? but this year a fair bit cheaper than last

For some strange reason, none of that seems to happen to me.

My Omega has been insured with the RAC for 3 years and each year the renewal price has been a few £ lower than the previous. I had the same experience with LV on the CDT - the renewal price was about the same a the previous year

The renewal for Mrs MSS' Twintop arrived two weeks ago, 4 weeks ahead of expiry, and the increase is about 4% on a price that was very competitive last year.

If it did, I would never barter as that actually is the reason this problem exists - that everyone expects to get a lower price by bartering or complaining. I would simple go elsewhere.

Make sure that you have a copy of your no claims discount as many companies will ask for documented proof. They are often in attached PDF documents after you renew. Also make sure that your NCB is transferred if you change.

Insurance companies are inherently untrustworthy, they manage their employees in a way which coerces them to be less than honest.

The good news is, one day legislation will sort them out.

The bad news is, when that happens and they can't screw careless customers by loading premiums anymore, they will have to screw all of us to make their money!
