Rover 75 front speaker recommendations
As mentioned in an earlier post, I going to upgrade the sound system of a 2000W Rover 75. The car already has a Chinese Double DIN unit fitted.
I am contemplating component speakers circa the £100 mark and was wondering what sets people have fitted and how easy they have been to fit. I plan to re-use the existing plastic speaker mounting but use dynamat and other sealing material to seal it accoustically to the door. I also plan to accoustically seal and dampen the inner and outer door skins. The sets that seem to be good options are: Hertz DSK 165 Audison Prima AP 165 (woofer only - keep existing tweeters or buy tweeter as well for another £85). Focal ISS 165 or Access 165 (cannot remmember model code). Has anyone fitted these (or others) and what woofer depth clearence and tweeter fitting issues did you have. I would rather have a tweeter that goes straight in to housing in the door. I would then probably re-position the existing tweeter into the rear doors as I understand the wiring can be taken off the existing 'full range' speaker - please correct me if I am wrong on this. I have spoken to my local car audio installer who recommended fitting an Alpine SWE-815 compact active sub in the boot after we both looked at the car and conlcuded that a under-seat sub cannot be fitted due to the for/aft adjustment bar and the air vents. The advantage of this is that it can be fully unplugged from the car when I need more boot space (for pushchairs etc.) They quoted £150 supplied or about £100 more fitted and wired up. The final upgrade would be an amp for the front end. Unfortunately a Genesis will not fit in the glove box but I have found the Mosconi Gladen PICO II which is a really small amp (about 8cm by 8cm!) which will easily fit in the glove box. It is Class D and produces 2 x 80w RMS into 4 ohms. It sounds like a really exciting development in car audio, offering high quality amplifier performance in a very compact chassis and at a reasonable price (circa £170). Mosconi are well regarded Italian made amplifiers. I would attach a picture if I knew how to - for those into ICE it is worth a look up. Any thoughts on the ideas/advice/recomendations would be greatly appreciated. |

I would look at either the Alpine speakers or Infinity for that price. Infinity are quite good for the money. I had them in my first car and they didn't disappoint. Probably worth messaging Coolcat for some advise. Alternatively, call the guys at Caraudiodirect. I have bought my speakers from them over the years as they seem to be cheaper then other sites and when I have spoke to them over the phone for advise etc they have been helpful.

I'd recommend Coolcat here on the forum. He has a brilliant sound system in his car. Well worth speaking to him... 👍

I have fitted Infinity Reference Speakers 165mm to fronts with crossover,
Rears are Infinity Coaxial 165mm. In side of doors have sound deadening material fitted. Front Tweeters are Infinity and rears are Harmon Cardon. All above run through 4 Channel Alpine Amplifier. Double Din is Navall 'Star'. All above and a lot of help supplied by Sir Jeff (coolcat) trimani (ALF) |

If you want to discuss anything Alex, feel free to contact me via pm/email or the shop number all in my signature Sir If you do decide to mount an amp in the glovebox do make sure it has good ventilation to dissipate heat.

Thank you for all the ideas.
Unfortunately the only Genesis amp that will fit is the Stereo 60 (I have looked at the dimensions) and they seem quite rare. All the Series 3 amps tend to run warm, as I know from the Series 3 Four Channel that I have in the MGB, so a glove box location is probably not a good idea. I will Jeff a PM to see what he suggests. Many thanks |

I was looking at mounting my amp on the bottom of the glove box underneath with a couple of 12v fans in a push pull arrangement cut in the removable cover
