I dont to be honest, there are a huge variety of sound deadening materials available. For the large areas panels I would consider a damping material such as THESE I have used this, good value, but I used it around my sub box to cut localised vibration, and I am happy with that.

Other materials to consider HERE

I remember about 25 years ago, Lotus experimenting with microphones, and out of phase speakers in the headrests of the Espirit, which was rather interesting but I dont believe they developed it much further (probably couldnt because of financing). The S- Class I believe has something like that though currently.

............and as T-Cut suggests, looking into the window seals too (but beware of adding extra strain to the window motors). Remove any wind deflectors also, and swap out bullet mirrors for skull caps if fitted (I believe skull caps were slightly quieter. Wiper blades too with spoilers may help too.

The DB rating on tyres is for external noise only.

The quietest tyres I've ever had on a 75 are Michelin Pilot Sport 3, and I've owned 5 Rover 75 and tried lots of tyres over the years.

Compared to my Audi A6 and Mercedes C Class I find a lot of noise enters the 75 from the engine bay so I'd start there.

Not to mention the usual noise sources such as creaking window seals, door cards and dashboard.

T-Cut

Plus, check all your door rubber.

Also door mirrors can be a source of noise. The rubbers between door and mirror base compress and cause wind noise.

Any other suggestions?
Fit a petrol engine , took Frosty out for a spin today, and noted how much more refined than the diesel he is

Failing that.........................

I have to agree with Brian, after a few years of driving the tractor engine CDT I have been cruising around in the 1.8 petrol, first thing we noticed was How nice it was to hold a conversation in a quiet car

Petrol is not for me. 17k miles a years on my own money: it has to be a diesel. Over the last 1456 miles mine has returned 58mpg.

Cool

Remove the engine and fit a mast with a sail.

Or

Buy a V8 and enjoy the noise.

Well in all fairness neither a diesel nor a petrol is loud anyway. Both are very quiet. You want to get in our Kia Soul 1.6 petrol. At 70mph the engine sounds like its sat on your lap.

Did the under tray make a difference to interior noise?
