Default Front Suspension Springs

Hi

How easy is it to replace the front susp springs on a 2.0l Diesel Estate 2002.

Tried to search front suspension and front springs but nothing comes up

Sure there's a thread somewhere.

Thanks

If you have all the right tools it is easy. In particular you need:

1. A sturdy set of spring compressors with 3 compressors at least and safety clamps.
2. A good breaker bar to release the strut pinch bolt
3. Good six sided sockets for the pinch bolts 15mm for the strut and a 13mm for the lower ball joint as a minimum.
4. Ball joint separator to release the track rod end, although i have done it without disturbing the track rod.
5. Plenty of releasing fluid

If you have all these then fairly simple, but the problem points are usually the pinch bolts and separating the lower ball joint. Sometimes they are easy and you can do the job in an hour or so, other times you can struggle all day. All depends on how corroded the bolts are, how long since they were last separated, and whos been at the car before you.

if you're getting springs replaced then imo its well worth getting the strut bearings replaced at the same time. They're cheap enough and a known weak spot.

Fully agree with this. It all needs to come out to do the springs anyway. The bearings are almost a service item and are low cost. Daft not to do it all.
