As above....
I did it without a lift, but an extra pair of hands proved useful.
Also see recent thread on the subject.

Default suspension ?

Has your car got decent rubber? Are the pressures correct?
Suspension tweeks need to start from the floor upwards. My 75 is an old thing but the general standard of ride seems ok to me for my needs, not forgetting these cars are a fairly heavy thing. I am running on 205/65r15 tyres on contour rims, and I will say the handling is by no means (Brown stuff to a blanket) but it still works well. If you think the car is a bouncy ride from the description given, the last item to consider would be an anti roll bar as this will stiffen bounce even more in my opinion. If the car feels unsteady during corners with the suspension replaced, I would consider tyre pressure experimentations and also make and quality of tyres, if the tyres have worn to the old geometry settings, try a wheel change around, if this fails to change things, I would prescribe rubber change for a recognised brand and quality.

ive a connie se 51 plate and roll bar was all ready fitted on mine and to be honest ive not had any wallowing while pushing it in to and around corners I do know the later models did do away with the roll bar and changed the set up of the springs and dampeners

On my car, a 306 estate, I fitted a front suspension strut brace. This made a huge difference to the cars handling.
If you find the rear anti roll bar does not improve your handling then, personally, I would consider the strut brace.
Once funds allow I will be doing this too. I also like to fit Michelin or Pirelli tyres and check tyre pressures weekly, as I have found this makes a big difference.

I hope you get this sorted

Rob

I bought a 02 tourer recently, my son drove it home for me when we picked it up. The first thing he said to me was, it corners very well, nice and flat around the twisties. That's from a 23 year old who drives a lowered, turbocharged Toyota something or other that has very firm suspension.

When you have come to some solid conclusions please let me know. I have never been happy with the suspension. It has had a full computer based suspension analysis and everything showed 100%.

It's not just the wallowing around corners, I find the car rocks. I was sitting in the car near the sea recently and the wind just made the car rock from side to side. I have the rear roll bar. My car is a low KM car, of course maybe the dampers are worn but the suspension specialists say no.

And like you I don't want a ZT. While I would be perfectly happy with the ZT mechanically I hate the interior and love the 75 sandstone beige interior. So I could buy a ZT and completely replace the interior and put the brightwork on the outside but it's a lot of cost and work to achieve what I think they wanted to get to with the Rover Sport.

Maybe I'll just get the X Type AWD after all .....
