Are you sure the early petrols are OBDII compliant? My 1999 1.8 certainly isn't!

There is also a way to kill the ECU by GSM if it is stolen...
When you say kill it do you mean "disable" or fry it?

You can't make a transponder from the diagnostic socket on our cars, no worries there!

disable...

there was a whole debate about the dangers etc with stopping the car at speed and in the end I did not follow it up, but it is possible and I have tested it in a safe area...

it is great if you know that the car is not on the motorway...

I suppose thats the benefit of having the old fashioned keys compared to the new credit card style keys

Is it due to the immobiliser not being on the same bus as the ECU and OBD socket??

Yes it is Trevor, all MEMS3 ECM are EOBD compliant, it's not a Pye "Lego" lurking inside the plenum you know
