Hopefully an easy one...
Been a while since I was last on here, to be fair I was doing pretty well with my Rover, I have done now over 20k miles in just over a year and the tank has been brilliant!
Unfortunately on my way back from a work trip to Scotland a strange issue with the driver's window developed... when I tried to lower it it made a very nasty scratching sound like there was a small stone stuck in the mechanism or something, the window goes up absolutely fine with no noise what-so-ever... After the next loo stop I tested it and it was 100% fine, no noise, up and down very smooth and quick. I thought then that it was cleared or had sorted itself and carried on. The next time I tried to open the window I got the same scratchy noise and it only opened about a quarter of the way. Again though it went up just fine, no noise.... So, after next loo stop I tested again and it was fine, no noise at all! But, once back out on the road when I tried it again it made the same scratchy, grinding noise and stopped before it really started to open, but no noise when going back up... I am sure if I go out now to test it will be fine, but pretty sure it will make the same scratchy noise again once moving! Please could someone help, this car could be up for sale soon and I want to make sure it is working okay Thanks |

You need to change the window rubber, I had something similar, I changed the mechanism thinking it was that, turned out to be the rubber that the window glass slides in?!?

Try removing the door card, it could be the rubber on that.

A+ to Trikey!
I removed the 'chrome' window trim and the felt on the rubber was completely worn away so it was just rubber on glass, which is why it wouldn't go down but would go up! I have now refurbed the trim with some felt tape and now it is as good as new, hope the tape stays put for good! I have now cleaned the rest of the windows, I think I must have parked under a sappy tree as the whole car is covered in sticky droplets, oooer! Thanks everyone for your replies....! |
