Best time to sell cars will be at the end of the month so you're not giving the government anything.

I would like to see Road Tax put on fuel duty so everybody pays, The foreign tourists that use our roads, those unscrupulous people that never pay even the crooks that steal cars, if they have to put fuel in then they pay tax.
Also those that use the road more pay more, as for Mr or Mrs retired who only does the little run down to the shops each week and only does a few miles then they pay only for the miles they drive.

Just think no need to send out reminders to every vehicle owner in the country, no police needed to check and chase tax dodgers, no need for court appearances, the police can then be tasked to do more important things.

They could sell off buildings that that house all those pen pushers.

Can't argue with that

This is a good idea in principle, but as we're already not too far off the most expensive place to buy fuel in the world

If the government (any government, I'm not just having a go at the current mob) reduced fuel duty to a reasonable level, and then stopped charging us VAT on the fuel duty (tax on a tax anyone) then we might be able to bear the cost of an extra few pence a litre instead of VEL. You're correct in as much as it would make it a lot fairer, but with the price of fuel as it is, I'm not sure that it's currently a workable solution.

Signed the petition. Good reason for someone to buy my Focus before October as it has 9 months tax on it!

I have been saying that for a few years no road tax put the price on fuel the more you drive the more you pay.

I would hate road tax being put onto fuel as I like driving big cars however it would seem to be the fairest way to tax based on the pollution generated. It would also avoid penalising people that just keep a car for occasional use whilst encouraging the rest of us to think before making unnecessary journeys.
I know that I try to think before I drive a lot more now and tend to combine smaller trips into one bigger trip to save fuel. I will say that I'm not even slightly an eco-mentalist........I can't wait for global warming to help reduce my heating bill....however I hate spending a small fortune each month on fuel.

People are freaking out and it's quite simple.

Buy a car today with road tax on it, as you buy car give back old tax disc and drive home. Even a 1st class stamp and dva processing will mean a few days before the tax is officially off car. Ring up and tax car yourself shock horror no fines.

Not difficult.

Buy a car with no Road tax /sorn. Ring up tax the car.

Again not difficult and no fines.

As for the insurance questions, why would you be driving a car with no mot or tax anyways?

Oh and you can check a cars mot and tax using this website

https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk

It's free and accurate within a working day / Monday after weekend. You argue point, 7 day producer from police in worst case anyways.

This morning I will be putting a 12 month paper disk in the screen holder.
Do the new rules mean that next month on the 1st Oct I can take it off the screen? or should they have to be in place for the duration of the validity?
Ken.

Ideal, unless you have fifteen cars

I personally like the idea you get a "receipt" for each time you shell out £265

As I understand it, it states you don't need to display any 'tax' disc after 1st October and I think it said 'throw the existing one away'; however, I will keep my last one in the history file for my car, together with all the bills, MOTs and old tax discs, etc.
