Well there's more to go wrong with a petrol so you need the diagnostics..

Well, I've ordered one. I shall report back once its arrived. It was only £6 from the bay, if it doesn't work on mine I'll use it on the wifes 56 plate Saab 9-3 cab.

That is exactly the same as the one i've got, without the disc and cost a bit more from a different supplier. Downloaded Torque Pro to my tablet. Have been running it most times i'm out in the ZT or my Land Rover. Didn't report any error codes or any issues in the ZT, but at recent service the garage scanner picked up an error on a MAF sensor and coil. But my OBD2/Torque Pro didnt pick it up. It did pick up a couple of minor issues on the LR though. So not sure how accurate the read outs are ?

Main use for me is checking engine temp and speed. I also downloaded the 'Track Recorder' app to go with Torque Pro. Quite cool seeing the route plotted with info, but it doesnt save the data???

The other thing though, is that the mechanic says i shouldn't be using the OBD2 plug for more than a few mins at a time as it overloads the ECU motherboard, heats its up / burns it out. He said big handheld devices don't overload it but the mini OBD2 plugs too. I hadnt heard that before, so havent used it again in last couple of weeks. Is he correct?

Never heard of that, when I had my Focus RS people left them plugged in and no one had any issues.

i had left mine plugged in both cars for days at a time. hadn't caused any issues. not sure if there is a long term issue with doing that? perhaps he came across a couple of dodgy ones that caused an issue....
