Default Tourer numberplate light holder removal

Help,

I'm trying to fit a reverse camera but I can't get any hex or torx bits to fit the screws holding the numberplate light . It's driving me mad, does anyone know which bit I need?

They are security hex bolts. Look closely at the bolt and they have a central pin, so your hex bit will need a hole. Any tool shop will sell these, usually in a ' anti theft bolt kit'. I got my wee kit for £5 I think from a local tool shop.

God knows why MGR put anti theft bolts in that part of the tourer tailgate!

The size on the bit is; CR VT20

These are also available as "Allen keys" style like this. . .

Suprisingly, I have the same kit, but my screws were very rusty and difficult to fit a bit into. Eventually it was the bit marked T27 that fit best of all and not easy to fit squarely onto the screw head with even the slimest bit holder. After it was removed, I must warn all that after taking it down to it's component form, the numberplate light holder doesn't easily line up together when re-assembling and fitting, the screws tend to point a few degrees out in all directions. Time and patience is all that's requred.

Thanks to Yella Fella for your help, I'd never have guessed they were anti-tamper with all the rust on them. Incidently, I expect the reason they're anti tamper is to stop access to the boot opening mechanism by those who shouldn't enter.

Thread moved to a more appropriate forum. Re-direct left in old. This may be the better forum as things get 'buried' very quickly in the General Forum.

When I come round to doing mine......I'll replace them with standard screws.

Another thing I have noticed............... why are the number plate lenses on the saloon screwed in.......but the tourer ones are a clip fit ?????

There doesn't seem to be any clips on my Tourer, will I need then when I put on a smiley? (Thanks Arnold Clark, whatever plate it originaly had, it was given a plain plate when it passed through through your hands). I always like the smiley, don't you think it gives the car even more class?
