The clay removes all bonded contaminants first to leave a nice clean paint for machining. If you machined first all the contaminants would be spun arounf with the machine pad and further marr the paint finish.

Okay thanks for all the helpful replies, now a couple of questions when can I do this weather wise e,g do I need to wait for the better weather, how much clay would I need to do a ZTT and any links as to where to buy ?

Some people recommend using a clay mitt, if so, would it be a circular motion or in straight lines, also with what sort of lubricant.

halfords in hamilton do clay bar in the palace grounds or if you want to come to gods country i can give you some to try before you bay any

You can actually use "White Tac" same as Blu Tac, a lot cheaper than clay use a detailing spray as a lubricant & use it in straight lines.

I've use white tac a few times now with really good results. Got a few packs from the pound shop. Cheap as chips
