Well rescued. I take it the door dent was vandals? Must have been a fun journey back with all the engine weight and the rear of the truck.

Well done gents! I suspect the staff at the front counter of the police station are going to be totally confused by this.

Once a refuse disposal notice has been served by the council the owner has 7 days to collect the vehicle. If they don't there ownership is transferred to the council who instruct a 'scrappy' to uplift and dispose. The expense of the uplift is covered by the value of the car to the 'scrappy'. The council pay nothing.

You could try reporting the car as found property and offer to store. The police certainly won't want the expense! After the requisite 3 months the property (car) belongs to the finder.

Simple request for a new V5 from DVLA. They will write to the previous registered keeper at that point. They can object. If they do it becomes a bit sticky.

Document everything!!

Door might have been like that since Day One - must admit didn't look at the left as it would have meant wading through more mud!

At worst you recovered a car for an owner and saved it from the Council, they'll just put it down as being moved as per their instructions. If the owner wants it back you can issue a fair bill for recovery, who knows, the owner could have taken ill in the car? At best you sit on it for a short time and then it's yours and another ZT gets saved. Well done to all concerned here, we should all keep our eyes open for this sort of thing.

It'll be very interesting to hear what happens when you come to start it up Andy, as in when you find out what, if anything, is wrong with it

Do you plan to have a go ASAP, or wait until it's officially yours?
