Default Reconditioned Engines

My 1.8 Club SE has dropped Liners and needs an engine replacement. Should I go for secondhand or reconditioned and is it worth it on a W reg Car. Only had the car for 4 weeks and driven 30 miles but we love it.

Hi.Did not know you could get "dropped" liners on the 1.8.
Imay be wrong, not sure.

Default Reconditioned Engines

Hi. According to Landrover Bulletin 0036 if the liners drop you need to replace the engine. The garage doing the work on my car reckon this has been caused by excessive overheating. The headgasket was repaired just before I bought the car and has gone again.

Sounds like a bad head gasket replacement. The liners should be re-sealed when it's done as they tend to move as the head is removed.

To be honest you should be able to return the car to the seller if you have had it so little. Seems to have gone very soon after you bought it.

If you want a credible, reliable and cost effective replacement then this is a way if you can do the rebuild yourself, just swap parts over from your 1.8, and you have a brand new block with a hardness value of at least 100 brinel, unlike your overcooked block which has most likely been annealed to 60 brinel and is now fit for the recycle bin.

They will sell for £250.00 incl vat is asked nicely ( well they did for me anyway)

There is an excellent garage up on the Ringwood road that rebuilt-replaced "Scribblers" V6 engine for him. They are the people who keep the Subaru rally teams cars going.

If you can't find them, PM Scribbler for more info..

Thanks for all your replies. Decided to go with a recon unit just waiting confirmation from warranty company. Would have taken the car back to seller but the previous work was of a poor standard with several parts either missing or replaced with none standard parts.
