Default Sigh... parking sensors again...

I bit the bullet today and took the rear “bumper” off. The advice here is correct – it’s not hard, though it helps to have a friend or very long arms. Putting it back on again was rather more difficult. But… my wiring seems perfect and not corroded/worn through etc.

And here’s the strange thing – everybody was telling me it goes over the exhaust and gets burnt, but mine heads off towards the O/S rear wheel, nowhere the exhaust. So I don’t; think it's that.

Just to remind anyone reading this – when I reverse, I get the beeper as a continuous tone. The sensors don’t seem to be corroded or anything, and all tick when you put your finger near them.

The reversing light comes on OK.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

The wiring runs along the inside of the bumper & is attached (badly) to the polystyrene impact pads & where it goes to the N/S outer sensor it travels directly above the exhaust tailpipes & has been known to drop down & melt on the pipes, mine did this but the fault didn't show it's face until the salt had corroded the bare wires at the melted section

Hhmmm… wish I’d looked at it more closely when I had it apart, as it didn’t seem you could get to the exhaust from where the wires were – they seemed way too high up etc.

You need to check ALL the wires carefully for damage and continuity, i am rebuilding my third parking sensor loom, if water gets in anywhere the capillary action moves it up the sleeving and rots the copper inner cores, just had to cut off 18 inches of one wire until i found good copper!
