Letaher gaiters
So, on my fabric seat car I have PVC gaiters on the gearstick and handbrake.
I often see refrences to leather gaiters, and I don't just mean the aftermarket replacement ones. I assumed that cars with leather seats, therefore also got leather gaiters. But the car I bough my leather interior out of today, also had PVC gaiters. Anyone really know what's what, bearing in mind that the PVC is often so good most people don't realise most of their leather seats are actually PVC, only the bits you 'touch' being actually leather. |

Drive got rid of the leather as PVC is cheaper. It's funny as I didn't think I'd notice the difference between my 99 Conny SE and the current 2001 Club SE, but you can!

afaik they have always been a 'faux' leather item, or at least I've never seen any real leather ones in all the years I've been looking, even on pre-Drive cars.
As you say much of the leather seat trim is in fact also PVC. I bought one of these ebay real leather trim sets for the V8 and am impressed. It fitted onto the handbrake plastic trim piece easily enough and looks OEM. I haven't risked the gear knob trim one yet as the V8 trim in that area is now impossible to find replacements for and a bit of a NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- to get out! edit - I stand corrected by Rob hth

But my car and the one I saw today are pre 'drive'. In fact mine is a Cowley car, and I think the other was too, though I didn't check.

out of interest, has anyone fitted (light) GREY gaiters to a smokestone car? I bought some on ebay secondhand/unused and I'm not sure what they are going to look like with charcoal seats ...

heh - thats good thinking. I hadn't thought of that - was just thinking about the contrast on the door panels... and hoping. I guess they will be better with walnut blobs on top rather than leather....
