Your right there and also how would it affect automotive engineers as well, With electrical engineering being a sperfic trade that's going too require more training and courses too complete in order too fully qualified.

I think many main dealers will treat this as way too promote echo friendly vehicle systems and too those who love too be green they'll sure in brace the idea.

How ever there will be some skiptetics as we've used too internal combustion engines for so long and it works.

I think some will find it take it on board I'm one of them.

However technology has too progress.

Other thing I'd like too know is can be maintained by any DIY Mechanic or will the system prove too complex and have too be sent too a specialist.

The Chinese-owned firm, best known for its emphasis on driver safety, has become the first traditional carmaker to signal the end of the internal combustion engine.
It plans to launch five fully electric models between 2019 and 2021 and a range of hybrid models.
But it will still be manufacturing earlier models that have pure combustion engines.

Also,

Nicolas Hulot announced the planned ban on fossil fuel vehicles as part of a renewed commitment to the Paris climate deal.

I cannot see it happening fully in my lifetime, however I do believe it will happen at some point. Although I do think it will start in the towns and cities, with centres being completely closed to regular traffic, with vehicles only allowed in for deliveries, and public transport.

As it stands, it is only planned, however I believe there are too many other combustion reliant engines that havent had the development of passengers cars. Lorries being the biggest. Although in saying that with the development of electric buses and further lessons learned from passenger vehicles, will make it easier for lorry manufacturers to further their existing development programs.

I could see nuclear powered cruise liners and tankers though.

Make of it what you will.

There will be no Volvo cars without an electric motor, as pure ICE cars will be gradually phased out and replaced by ICE cars that are enhanced with electrified options.

I have been saying this for years that something like this will happen, its really not rocket science. To all those doubters out there, you better get ready for a bumpy ride. Diesel fuel is to be hugely taxed for the common motorist, VED taxation will increase massively which is likely to be charged every three months for the older vehicle. Its already happening, but many choose to bury their head in the sand it seems.

It won't happen in Scotland. Butanol made from Whiskey by products will run cars and its a less damaging fuel than ethanol. There will also be spare fuel if there's a shortfall from the gas from Sturgeon and Salmond.

It would be nice eh! there's a big business of old/used battery packs from BEV's, they are finding there way into all sorts of conventional cars by enthusiasts.

You've got me thinking now too be honest electrics conversion on classics would be a fantastic idea, keeps the heritage of the car going.

My worry was when internal combustion engines phase out so will the classics, but this plan would keep them going for ever.

I looked into buying a Renault Zoe, but we didn't feel we would benefit, more than likely we would be paying more each month on running costs.

Even if we leased the battery separately and allowed Renault to maintain it, the costs still dont allow for the limited capability on travelling, and the need for stop/start charging.

Battery technology needs to go a long way yet before range, charging times, weight and length of service are more sensible.
