Official mg rover build data???
The DVLA has the incorrect Year of Manufacture on its Database for my 2 Rover 75s, both came of the production line on Monday 4th April 2005, not 2006!
I sent my V5C, covering letter and copy of the mg-rover build data record, as printed from mg-rover. info. DVLA, have said the evidence I submitted is not valid, I need to submit the Official MG ROVER Manufacture record, normally held by enthusiast clubs! Where can I find this?

As far as I know the DVLA only records on the V5C :-
Date of first registration & Date of the first registration in the UK It is quite common for there to be a difference between the manufacture date and the registration date. My V6 was built on the 30th June 2000, but not registered until the 1st March 2001. The 1st March 2001 was the date that they changed the Road Tax from capacity to emissions. I therefore have to pay the higher rate. With the exception of the "Historic Vehicle" nil rate, (where they take the manufacture date into account) they just record, and tax, by the registration date only.

Thanks, I have got it now.
You are quite correct as mine is wrong, too. Mine is a late Cowley car, where sadly the official records seem to be lost or destroyed. However, it has a Cowley VIN and production ceased in July 2000, and that should prove that it is a 2000 year produced car.

The absolute top and bottom of it is simple, it is set in stone that production ceased at Longbridge on the 15th of April 2005 when MG Rover was declared insolvent. There were a very few cars that were hand assembled by a small team on behalf of the administrators, however this was limited to cars which had been assigned VIN numbers, and also considered viable to be completed. You could contact Reebs, as he will be considered to be representative of the Owners Club, and holds the official factory records, these of course are unlikely to differ from those you have obtained from MGRover Info. My own experience of dealing with DVLA are mixed to say the least, if you were informing them of a material fact that increases the rate of VED payable on a car, such as an increase in cubic capacity, fuel type etc, they would be all too happy to oblige. However if you modify a car in such a way as it attracts less VED, then be prepared to have a fight on your hands to have the changes applied. Best of luck, and if you are successful please let us know how you achieved the end result, as I'm sure more owners of "late" cars will be interested in the process Brian |
