Default Variable intake system

My Zt has developed the dreaded rattle. On inspection the front VSI valve
when removed, the long plastic bar, although still attatched to the actuators, flops around or rather down, way below the spindle area of the motor drive. Whats gone wrong. I bought off ebay a ZT workshop manual but this is of no help whatsoever, giving NO details to this assembly. Has anyone else had this problem and how was it resolved.
