The value of a car is the lowest the seller will sell for and the highest a buyer will buy for.

It doesn't really matter what I think a V8 is worth as I'm not selling one...

My friend is selling a lovely V8 at the moment - it's a 55 plate in green.
Located in Southport so not too far, has Nav, Cruise etc and is in lovely condition. Goes well, too!

He's after around £5.5k but I'm sure he's open to some light negotiation.
I've been under it a few times, and it's all in good order.

This is my car DMGRS is talking about, I wish I knew what current values of these were as so many people have their own opinion of what they are worth and some have a more vested interest than others.
As some have mentioned, there is no real set value on the cars, one sold on ebay with 103k on the clock for over 4k which is quite a lot considering the mileage of the car, wheras there is a lot up for 8k+ which are nothing special and are around 40-60k on the clocks.

I looked round for ages before I got mine and took a few out on test drives just to find the one which drove the best and which I liked the most. I paid a lot more than my reserve was set at on ebay because it was the car I wanted, wheras now I am selling because its not being used and is just sat on the road outside my house.

does anyone know how parkers arrive at the figure?

i've seen some suggestions online that its based on the actual selling price.

if that is the case i'd say their data is out when it comes to the v8. (none actually sell for 1.5k, unless they come on a pallet!)

perhaps the data system they have isnt capable of dealing with such low sales numbers? ie they do capture sales, but so few go through dealrs it simply isnt meaningful? i'm curious if anyone knows this.

for me 5-7 K was a similar ball park as other comparable performance cars, with not hugely different mpg of the same age.

Impreza wrx, Audi S3, Focus RS/ST, Astra VRX

so for me it was ok. as others have said you'll see roughly what they seem to go for, and if you can afford it go get one. they are brilliant fun, and even occasionally practical.

i knew that if i didnt get one i'd always regret it.

If you're referring to 334, it didn't make reserve!

You might also want to mention that a mint one owner 75 V8 (which is rarer than a ZT) with just 34,000 miles recently made just £5,400 in open market!

As no one in the Trade uses Parkers, you may as look in the Beano for values, as it's simply a comic sold to the general public!

However, as even with the Guides that the Trade DO use (Glass and CAP) they are absolutely MILES out on value, with them being valued at little more than a 190!

The cars are worth substantially more than ANY of the guides, however, there is a limit as to how far over these guide prices these cars can sustain.

I did give my opinion on them in a recent thread, but seeing 70 and 80,000 mile examples for £7K and £8K, is simply being unrealistic!

It will no doubt spark a discussion between owners and non-owners.
The problem you create by offering it via PM is the reaction you saw.

Be open about your opinion, let others and owners comment and the OP can draw his own conclusions.

You once referred to the 260-ties as 'secret squirrel', no need to be the same with your valuations
Herman, I really appreciate your comments and if the OP wants to post a Link to any car that he's looking at, I will gladly post my opinion on what I think it's worth, either by PM or on open forum, as requested by the OP!

I wouldn't say that I priced mine unrealistically, it was up for 5.5k BIN but the reserve was set lower than that as ideally I would like to move it onto a new owner who can store it and/or justify having it.

I agree with the guides, when I investigated trading mine in, I was offered £900 for it and even the salesman said that it was massively below what the cars are actually worth.

I'm sorry if this sounds like I'm having a go, (I'm not) but the price (or starting price) was clearly unrealistic in the current Market place, otherwise the car would have sold!

I'm well aware, otherwise I wouldn't have started the thread in GD

I have been offered 4600 for the car as it stands but ideally i would like 5k so im losing around 1500 but I know that atm, its not the best time to be selling one. If I dont sell it then i suspect that its just not going to be used for at least 12 months :/
