i use 4th with my unmodified CDT but not for long because when i put the selector in 4th, the torque converter doesnt lock out so its really uneconomical to stay in 4th for any length of time.
then again i try not to spend lots of time on single carrigeway, but i know it cant be helped at times.

if i am staying at 50 for long periods, i tend to creep upto 55 and leave it in 5th. let it kick down as it requires but then again my van isnt that heavy (about 1100kg) so doesnt struggle too much on flats to maintain that speed

Generally speaking 50 mph is about the changover speed for the auto CDTi.

So even if the car had the power it would put a heck of a strain on all the drive chain parts. It's like you trying to pedal a bike uphill in top gear innit. Do as people advise, go faster and allow the engine to rev a bit more...

Your speedo is bout 10% fast, so set your cruise at about 65 mph and you will both be happy innit..

Just come back from The Gower with the 'van. 400 round trip & coming back set the cruise at 65 (60 on the way there) MUCH BETTER at 65. the 160 re-map also helps, it takes out the flat spots, a lot of the waiting for the turbo & revs more freely.

Regards

Paul

I'm just back from my adventure and I done over 200 miles I ranged between 50 and 55 mph in 5 th gear all the way on motorways only problem I had with Brian's 160 upgrade was I had to keep taking foot of the accelerator the car just wanted to go and go I also done 34 miles per gallon according to ipk so give or take a mile or two got to say very pleased with the 75 and the way it handled

>>>I done over 200 miles I ranged between 50 and 55 mph in 5 th gear all the way on motorways <<<

Why? that's a very bad speed for a diesel auto, in fact it's about the worst possible speed for reasons already given..
