Rover 75 CDT Intermittent - No Power Low Down
Hi there,
Looking for some answers here. We have a Rover 75, CDT, 99,V, 154,000 miles and going. Previously, very little power throughout the rev range. I have changed the MAF sensor, but now, intermittently, losses poer low down say from idle to about 2000 rpm, then a sudden gush of power. At other times, normal service is resumed, with power throughout the rev range. I have used a about 2 bottles of Injector Cleaner in about 2 Tanks, and has made a slight improvement. When there is no power, economy suffers - 29 mpg around town, but when its normal, back to a respectable 39.6 MPG. Tried a Bosch MAF Sensor, same symptoms. No Black Smoke, Turbo works fine, as you can really feel the pull, starts first time at one turn of the key. New Under Bonnet Fuel pump relaced 2 weeks ago, as it had a hole in it. Air bag light continuously on, computer says passenger side...Where are the control units? Apart from that, we have covered 7000 miles trouble free since purchase in November 2010. Any other suggestions? Many thanks in advance. |

Air bag light. Connectors under the seat. Moving them about sometimes does the trick.
Some people have just soldered them together to get a good connection. |

Does sound like a poor electrical connection re. the maf sensor.
The symptoms are a dead sensor ( Low power from 0 to 2,000rpm. ) but it will not cure itself. If it comes and goes the sensor is OK. Just the signal from it to the ECU. Any water in the plenum chamber ???????? Very important to stay dry. |

I tried the connectors under the passenger and drivers seat. No luck. I think I need a new airbag control unit, but not sure where that sits. Also, the MAF sensor, I have used some injector cleaner, and wife says it drives ok most of the time, but sometimes plays up. ECU? |

No water in the Pleanum Chambers. By the way, where are they? I cant seem to locate the Pollen Filter either? Is it under the black casing in between the front windscreen and the Engine Bay? Also, Water Jets not spraying water, but the pump works. |

Yes that's where the plenum is and the pollen filter is in there too. Just underneath the pipes to the washer jets.... Mike |

If your airbag lights on and having a go at the under seat conectors doesnt work you might have problems with the side impact sensors being corroded!!
Not someting I have had to deal with But I belive this often happens due to water in the plenum 'overflowing' through the pollen filter and getting under the carpets?? - of course once its there it wont dry out and can cause probs with the conections - somebody who knows will be along soon no doubt!! That might explain your running problems if the water level has got that high in the past so you need to examine the plenum and particually the ECU for water marks!! Slightly puzzled by you saying theres no water in the plenum - but then asking where it and the ECU is located?? there are loads of 'how tos' on the forum covering the problems a flooded plenum can cause so I would make a read of those a priority!!
