Default Testbook T1,T2,T3,T4

I'm seeing more testbooks available on ebay these days, most don't appear to be T4.

What does each version enable you to do? I know T3 would have limited function compared with T4, but how limited? Are the bonus settings worth having T4 rather than T3? Is T2 too outdated?

Also, snybody any idea what cables are required for the other models (not T4) and how much the cables typically are?

T1, T2, T3 will do nearly everything that a T4 will do.

The main differences are the speed at which they operate, they are all capable machines.

Anyone who is thinking about buying one should to do their homework first (essential) and preferably get one with all the appropriate leads as they are no longer available new for T1-T3. (Also if buying a T4 this as also essential as it is very difficult to buy them from Omitec.)

Absolute minimum for our cars for T1-3 are the correct software and leads, DTC0007A, DTC0006A and DTC0065A (red J1962 adapter)

Thanks Russ, good info there.

the part numbers can be used on T1,2&3? Are they all made by HP as I've seen the old testbooks were?

I posted the following on mg-rover.org but didnt get any responses.

Does anyone know the latest version of RDS Software that can be loaded
to pre-T4 Testbooks?

When you look at the testbooks that are being sold on Ebay some are listed as model 27070a or 27070b or 27070c. Are these basically Testbook 1, 2 and 3 respectively??

As more of these testbooks are becoming available might it not be an idea to start a "sticky" or Testbook sub-forum where we can list testbook info such as versions of software, listing of cables etc., all in one place?

Just a thought?

Have had a look through my Landrover Testbook 1&2 manual and it doesn't mention the model numbers at all.

Testbook1&2 use a 486DX 50mhz processor so can be quite slow in comparison with the later models, not really a problem if time is not an issue.

Information on Testbook 3 is sketchy to say the least, I've only seen reference to it on Landrover based information.

Talking Testbook T1-T4

Just thought I would post some of the software I know about!!

I thought it might be a good idea to keep a list of all available testbook software for MG/Rovers as more and more people are getting access to T1-3 and even T4.

Good idea, a list of software and hardware would be pretty handy.

I also couldn't figure out the difference between 27070a or 27070b or 27070c.

pre T4 kit best suited to the earlier cars

They are slow so a decent battery charger is a must have
They are so slow I think some dealers skipped even doing the PDI setup in the early years judging by the amount of cars I see with no country config set

T1 is not a lot of use for the 75 or ZT as it does not support lazy lock and vent or the disks I had for the T1 I rebuilt didn't result it disables certain options you may have had previously

T1, and perhaps 2,3 ideal for DIY only but best not used on other peoples cars

T1 uses RDS 3.11
T4 uses RDS 5 and RDS 5.06 is the version I have

I have never got my hands on a T2 or T3

Thanks Keith.

I read somewhere (and I can't find again where so could be wrong) that T3 was replace with T4 late 2003. So I guess T3 would do most things, or at least for the earlier models?

Anybody know if any reference material has been published? Such as pdf tutorials on using the software, hardware guidelines, or anything else along those lines? Would be good to have it all here.

Information on Testbook/T4 is difficult to find as they were intended to be dealer and specialist tools only.

There are sites that do have .pdf's of some of the manuals and user guides but because of copyright links to them or copies would not be able to be published on the forum.

There are other pieces of information that can be gleaned from the net, you have to do an awful lot of digging though various sites and threads though.
