Default Review.......75 to Dunster part 1

I'm writing in the style of a journalist for a magazine. I will split this report up because of it's size.

Having just been in car hospital getting her head gasket, cam belt change and service done our 75 Eliza was in need of a weekend convalescing. Where better to that than the seaside?
So scraping together what was left of our battered savings, we packed a case, filled the fuel tank and headed off to the medieval market town of Dunster http://www.whatsonexmoor.co.uk/villages/dunster.htm

I have always considered the 75 to be amongst the very best long distance journey cars ever built so really the journey from darkest Kidderminster to Dunster is a mere walk in the park, however the growth in my spine can be painful on long journeys so I take all the cositing I can get. The 75 has cossiting by the bucket full.
The cabin is beautifuly appointed in high quality materials and it's magic carpet ride is first class.

The well appointed cabin is tastefully done

I was unsure has to how well a large car like the 75 would perform with just the standard K series 1.8, however the power plant proved it's self more than up to the task with strong performance and great fuel economy! There are some good climbs in certain parts of the motorway and at 70mph in 5th gear at a tad over 3000rpm the engine hurried the car along and showed no loss in power.

We arrived at a face lifted Minehead West Somerset Railway (2 miles past Dunster) feeling refreshed with a fuel consumption of 42.8 mpg showing on the computer. A fuel tank top up showed this to be spot on!

Good MPG

The face lifted car park

After a browse around Minehead were there were some fantastic old open topped buses doing tours of the surrounding (well worth a go), a round of crazy golf and a bite to eat, we headed for Dunster beech.

Dunster beech

Time was getting on now so we decided to head into Dunster and book in at our hotel.
We were staying at 'The Yarn Market' hotel which over looks the 16th Centuary Yarn Market building.

Our room and views of Dunster

I cant wait to read the rest of this article. I have been going down to this part of somerset for the last 25 yrs......we used to stay at Blue anchor bay and before that we were in the small port of Watchet, stopping at Hellwell Bay..........
Hasnt the train station changed, its lovely to take the train journey through to watchet and beyond.......maybe stopping off for Fish and Chips at the harbour in Watchet (what blissful memories)

Hi Steve, we have stayed in Blue Anchor a few times. We used to stay at 'Camelot'. It is a great area, easy to get to and with some fantastic things to see. It's not to far from Porlock, Exmoor and even Lynmouth.

Glad it all worked out Reaper and a wise decision about the weekend car. How are you finding the ZT? Have you got a name for him/her?

Hi Colin. I know what you mean, I found a Mermaid there the once and she had lost her tail. It took me days to persuade my Mr's.......
