Depending on which trim it is they are probably coated.

A wipe down with a damp, warm microfibre is enough if the seats are clean.

I had my 75 tourer with lightstone leather for 60000 miles and cleaned the seats regularly with Carplan Interior Valet (from Halfords about £5). Sprayed it on, left for couple of mins, agitated with the brush in the cap then wiped off with a just damp sponge. Dry with old towel and finish with Autoglym leather care cream (again about £5 from Halfords). the seats were immaculate, came up like new each time.

I usually use Glipton (Liquid Leather) cleaner and conditioner. Does anyone know what type of leather is fitted to early (2001) Rover 75's where black leather is fitted

Is it:

Sealed leather

 A lifelong fan of Connolly hide care.

I've used it on Jaguar interiors and now Roxy, and it's absolutely superb. Costs £12 a pot, but lasts for years. I've used it on Roxy's leather several times and only used a third of a pot.

Gliptone is the business, mainly for the real leather smell! It's about £8 for a small bottle. I paid £20 for a litre from eBay a couple of years ago, and have loads left.

I'm not a big fan of the cleaner, just the conditioner.
