Moving house
Hello,
We are looking to relocate and move house. We've found a house to rent which we will move into while my own house is on the market. Trying to keep my house tidy and ready for viewings will be a nightmare with two dogs, so the plan is, move into this rented (furnished) property, empty mine and decorate where necessary and stick it on the market. I imagine it will sell very quickly as houses don't hang around long around here. I'm looking for some rough idea of what removals and storage may cost. I have a small three bed house and it's not exactly rammed with stuff. We would need to get all the stuff out and stored for, I imagine three to four months. Any idea what sort of costs I might expect? I realise I need to actually speak to some companies but wondered if anyone here may have been in a similar situation recently?

I used Chelmsford Removals to move me from a first floor flat to a two bed roomed house. Barkingside Essex to Saltash Cornwall. Cost under £1700.
But no storage was wanted so no idea about extra costs.

I had a quote Phil, from these people https://brightmovers.com who visited the house and it is from London to Bristol £540, Luton van with 3 movers, all in. They can supply boxes and do the packing. All the best Phil with the move. I sold a house in Devizes after it had been on the market for 12 months and I had to drop the price by 20K but that was in 2010. Hopefully things have improved since then. Are you going far from Devizes?

Thanks for the replies guys.
We will rent in Porthcawl and want to buy around this area up to Brecon. Really looking forward to it. Just hope it all works out.

Cheers Phil Driving round the Brecons this summer proved to me the VIS motors in my V6 were working, oh some of those roads are steep, but fantastic views. I think the house removal industry is highly competitive. I was asked for my lowest quote with the promise, they could beat it and they did. There are sites offering as many as 6 different quotes from 6 different companies. Watch out for the ones who load up the extras. I used Aldridge Auctioneers in Devizes to auction some antiques, big mistake. I did not get what I hoped for and the stuff went into their storage until it was sold. Of course all of that incurred charges.

I moved about 100 miles this year. Two blokes and one truck came to about £550. Moved out one day in the next, they packed pretty much everything up. Tbh best to leave it to them, it's surprising how quickly they can empty a house. They were from Suffolk, I'll try and dig out the name.

Thanks very much guys.
I'm feeling a little less concerned now. The question is, can I store all my stuff in two bedrooms and a dining room in the furnished house until my sale is complete!! Hmmmm.. Phil, yes! Brecon is absolutely beautiful. There is a Moor type area above Crickhowell. We drove there last night for the meteor shower. I managed to see one, absolutely spectacular. Managed a shot of the Milky way too!

Quote:
When the removals man comes round to do an assessment and he gives you a quote, ask him if he can do the lowest price, a private job not going through the company books with you having to pay the VAT, etcetera. |

To answer your question Phil if I may suggest, ask the landlord and reassure him/her, there will be no damages from the storage.
