Default ECU flashing and the KWP2000 a result

For the brave!
And no, don't even bother asking I will not do this on anyone else's car!

Following on from a member trying this I thought I would experiment myself

I updated my Tourer with the oem 131 map today copied from a members car last December using a KWP2000 tool, it worked

I then tried to use the same map on my Saloon it didn't work, and the car would not start
I had made a backup
I restored the backup the car started, phew!

Why the difference?
Simple trying to apply a map for an Auto to a Manual does not work. and I only have a backup of an Auto 131 map.

I thought the map would be just the actual engine map but it appears it is not it must also contain details about the Auto box, when I plugged the car into testbook I had several Auto gearbox errors which for a manual car was novel!

I really expected EWS problems but that was not the case.

I did find the DDE4 ECU needed to reconfiguring as ZCS and Vin code was corrupted but I only know that because I have a T4 there were no obvious problems with the car itself.

Now who out there is brave enough to buy their own KWP2000 to see if this process would enable the CDT ecu to fully support cruise control?

We could just at last be getting somewhere!

Looking at this ( MJ-056 / MJ-056 ) about £20.

But on ( eBay ) some are @£56, so the above may not include everything needed.

KWP2000 is around £50 on ebay and I think there is an alternative called a galletto which is cheaper. Both are chinese copies of much more expensive units as far as I know.

I used the KWP2000 on mine a couple of weeks and can confirm it will flash an ECU successfully.

EDIT: Beaten to it!

Not being well up on these diagnostic tools can I ask the question; could one copy the MAP and codes from a doner car with Cruise etc to your car? obviously saving the orginal data as back-up.
Is this the answer to all the retrofit CC to restore 100% working?

Default Do i need to do this to fit cruise?

I have seen a couple of commenst re "fully support" cruise on the CDTi but the threads that describe what works with retrofit cruise seem to mention all the features the owners manual does. Can someone explain the feature(s) of cruise that DO NOT work with a retrofit without doing this as well?

Many Thanks

Mike John

And if the answer to the above is yes, would this process work for adding traction control to diesels too?

Just a quick update
My Auto Tourer (with ron box) is going like the clappers now
I went to London and back yesterday it actually has some grunt around 70 mph when overtaking.

On the down side I kerbed one of my Serpents yesterday

I will have to get a matching 131 map for a cdt manual with cruise and try that on my Saloon next.

Remember if planning to try this you need a map from a similar spec car

i.e. if your car has any combination of these

Cruise
ATC (possibly?)
Traction Control
Auto box
Manual box

The map chosen must also support the same features

Keith if the ECUs are in binary, could we compare different ECU maps with different options enabled? I think the either the first 128kb or 256kb of the ECU is the engine map and the rest is car specific. I think theres software around to do this but so far I haven't found anything that will open up the .bin files I have.
