I've read so many comments about this incident with such polar opinions and it is extremely divisive.
Nobody really comes out of it well. However, if the student had properly explained his position (even if he had no money on him) it would have had a very different outcome. He claims he was advised, due to his proposed travelling time, that two singles would be cheaper but was issued with two for the same journey rather than reverse tickets. A plausible story you might think, but also one that nicely fits using an earlier single ticket. (I know, I'm cynical). However, rather than try to explain any of that he simply got abusive towards the ticket inspector. This attitude would most likely have added to the reasons why he was physically ejected. Yes,, his bag was passed out to him and it was only at the third attempt to throw himself back on the train that he was thrown to the platform. The 1st time I watched it I was pleased to see a "fare dodger" and abusive youth get what he deserved. All that has come out since has made me question that initial reaction, but I don't buy the "victim" cry from the student or his father. That they are bringing charges I think stinks as it only serves to dissuade members of the public from coming to anyone's aid in times of need, for fear of repercussions. It will also waste Police and court time on a unneccesary paper chase. If I was the boys father, whilst I may not be pleased with what had happened, would be embarrassed by the abusive "son" and would sort that issue before anything else. This was meant to be a quick response and became a bit more than I intended, but it has raised issues, that started with the riots earlier this year, that obviously still irritate me. Apologies for the longer than intended post. Derek

Unfortunately not all parents will take this attitude and you will get no support from the authorities in taking this stance.

Quite a few parents aren't interested in their off springs behaviour and too often the perpetrators rights gets in the way off their the victim(s) rights. Last edited by MN190; 14th December 2011 at 23:17.. |

my fear here is now that it,s been reported and made official is the big guy gets charged with assault and barred from the trains, the conductor gets suspended or sacked for allowing it to happen even joining in with the removal and the little *** gets bit compo and free train travel. questionable why did he wait 5 days to report it and he,s not shown anyone the ticket he claims to have and clearly heard on video he not paying and not getting off. legally the big guy aint got a leg to stand on possibly neither has conductor but morally most would agree with what they did, as did the passengers who applauded him.
