Default cant get a handbrake

i tried to adjust my handbrake following the nomal procedure. but its still like 8 clicks and even then not great it creaks on a hill. the lever end is at 25mm max level and if i adjust the wheel any more it will lock when the handbrakes off so im stumped. any ideas. could the cables be nackered.

there is an excellent ''how to'' on here on adjusting the handbrake and handbrake shoe adjustment,loads of stuff.

why not subscribe and view a wealth of information.

Remove the nut from under the handbrake and add a couple of washers behind it, i did this to mine the other week car now stops on 5 clicks and it passed the MOT.

Scott,

Leave it alone and drive the car normally, applying the handbrake whenever stationary. After a couple of weeks you'll find its performance will improve; at least that's what I've found.

It's a BMW design.

naughty boy. that is not the correct way to "adjust" the handbrake.
that way is to only adjust the stretched cables.
the correct way is to take the rear wheels off, then adjust at the drums.
