or could use the 5w-30

Ford USA recommend 5w-20 but that's virtually non-existant in the UK

At 5000 miles between changes something inside me says any decent correct grade modern oil will do the job.
I don't think any owner is ever really going to be in a position to say, "damn this wore out at 98456 miles instead of 102345 miles" etc because I used an inferior oil or whatever.

Likewise if one day the engine goes bang are you going to go out and shoot yourself because you used brand X instead of Y?

Scooter has said elsewhere oil is not the issue frequency and regular new filters it what really matters.

As you say Kieth at 5000 mile service intervals its just making sure you keep to the schedule rather than spending a fortune on the oil.

What I would like to say is my oil and filter are done every 5000 miles using a genuine oil filter and Castrol Edge oil and costs me £30.

AldoR I think you have been robbed. It just does not make sense to buy oil and do the oil change yourself

I take mine to national chain of garages who use a genuine oil filter and Castrol Edge oil and charge £30 and no need to get my hands dirty. For the people who say they prefer to do it themselves WHY??
I stand and watch the guy drain the old oil fit the new filter and measure the new oil into the filler. Once done and rested for a few minutes check the dipstick and hey presto its done
I hand over my £30 get a receipt and drive home and it all takes less than 30 minutes and cheaper than doing it myself.

here is a link: http://www.national.co.uk/order_oil.asp

It has gone up slightly from the last time I visited but they do offer 10% discount for online ordering meaning it should cost £35.10 BARGAIN!!!

Before I bought my 4 post ramp I used to go the National as well, at the time they were using shell Helix for the CDT

£30 all in and a chance to have a good look under the car was a bargain
