Default V8 Induction kit question

May be of some use to someone here, whilst bumbling through my mates selection of induction kits, it occured to me that a few of the larger ones may be suitable for the V8 as hes got quite a range of K and N's sitting around in boxes.

What is the connecting diameter of the V8 Induction kit to the OEM fitting used?

If there are one/a few I will get them off him and donate them to the club members on the condition they are not resold on as they are going to the bin thanks to his business going bankrupt anyways and hes just clearing out his old shed atm.

Thanks folks.

i would definitely be interested as i.m looking into doing the induction side. the diametre is around 70-80mm. i have a 75mm accufab throttle body and plenum fitted to mine, and have been thinking of ways in which i can do a filter in its original position but using an open cone, so if he has something around the 75-80 or slightly bigger please let me know.

Mines currently got an open cone filter in the engine bay on the end of a modified Mustang GT aluminium intake pipe at 86mm diameter. A recent rolling road power run showed that this was not the best to use. If the filter is a paper type element filter with metal trim (and end plate?), it will soak more heat than a foam type filter. They suggested a foam filter such as the HKS mushroom. I recently tried to fit a pipercross venom fully enclosed IC, but simply couldn't squeeze it in. I know at least one other 260 owner that managed this after removing the bumper to get to, and pull out, all the original ducting and air filter.

I am currently trying to source a HKS mushroom with a wide enough neck that would fit in the relatively small space I have to work with.

yeah saw your thread over on the 260 site, and have also been looking at them, found some on ebay with a 80mm neck.

I saw those on ebay. My only worry is that perhaps they are not the genuine item. They seem too cheap (about half what they should be). Also, after seeing this site http://www.hksusa.com/info/?id=3646 I realised just how accurate these copies were. I cant even tell them apart on this page that has pictures of the fakes against the genuine. I would rather pay the extra and know its real. Only problem is I cant find a genuine one at the right size that will handle up to 300bhp

Having gone through them and whilst a few of them where quite large in size, the best we have managed to find was a 60mm one which hes put on his clio, with the rest seemingly for motorbikes, and throttle bodies and so on having done some part number checking on the K and N site.

Sorry folks.

Did you say you have a Cone in the engine bay with all that heat

This puts it across quite well

That's interesting Keith, but it does raise a question about the location of the OE air intake, and not just for the S/C's. Our intakes are pulling in warm air from the engine bay and on the basis of the above should (need to) be modified.

I have thought about extending the end of the OE intake so that it draws air from somewhere "cold", rather than do the "ram air" or "cold air" thing, but I'm at a loss as to where this could be achieved.

We don't have an equivalent to the Mustang "Fender Well", although the intake is probably in a similar position, perhaps we need to find a way to close off/insulate this corner of the engine bay but still have a source of cool air?

totally agree, with the present position of the intake surely the air temp is around the quoted 200 degrees, i have an idea that i have uet to try as i'm waiting on a component from a member. Although the initial position of the filter will remain the same, it should be able to draw cooler air from underneath the car. I know about being careful about the car picking up water into said system and will look into a proper way to solve this cold air good, hot air not

I think I read Scooter mentioned the standard position was adequate for his ZT race car and that it also flowed enough air as well although he may have been referring to the top hose from the maf

My main dislike of the current intake is more to do with foreign objects dropping in

My Supercharged car must be sucking in huge volumes of air in on full chat.
On my previous 260 I found all sorts of junk in the filter and a dead bird.

I have yet to look in the current one!

I supect positioning it faceing forward or lower could increase the possibilty of water getting in. On a standard engine that equals a missfire on mine that miss fire could quickly become a big bang!

Here is my old filter after i removed the bird some fag end and several sycamore seeds
