Does this come with the barcode then so it can be coded to a car? Or am I missing something completely?

A good owner would have stapled them in the owner manual
I'll have to have a look in my handbook later, it's the sort of thing that is good to know just in case.

So no one noticed I mentioned a T5 then?
Just joking, no such thing afaik.

Although I imagine there was some form of mega T4 on the production line doing final coding and testing and I bet it had a bar code reader

Yes, the PCBs that we can supply come with new bar codes. We had to source these for a customer recently where they had had a new alarm control unit fitted by another dealer, but the receiver unit was faulty. As a consequence, the keys were no longer coded to the car.

Did notice it, yes.

There will have been a system similar to what you describe. Yes it would have a barcode reader (or readers), and would have read barcodes off things like the airbags and sensors, the various ECUs, as well as the keys for programming. It would be distributed around, a main server and stations along the line for coding, but also for flashing units like the testbooks can do.

Not sure who would have made it, but probably not HP or omitec, more likely someone like DSA, as the kit needs to be more robust being used all day every day.

T5 was being developed in China for the EU4 cars. Whether they ever completed it, I don't know.

T5 became a new diagnostics system developed for the Chinese called MG-GDS (MG Global Diagnostic System) which was launched in August 2007 by Omitec.

Probably means that any new ecu's for the Chinese built cars may not be usable in our cars.
