As lates said replacing any ECU is exactly that, a swap it and code it exercise
info for key items like keys (pun) is normally held in more than one place.

However a tottally fried car could be challenge!

you can read the cars stored barcodes off with T4 for existing keys coded to the car so worth noting them down ad then matching them to the relevant key.

I had a V8 here a while ago with only one key but it had lots of keys ( 6 plus iirc) coded to it not sure what life that had led previosly

To do this do you select plip programming menu?

Are the bar codes retrievable from facelift 25 and 45 models too with the newer troublesome BCU's?

I've not seen these barcodes before so forgive my stupidity - Are you speaking of codes or barcodes, as in a bunch of black & whites?

So reconditioning my possible faulty DDE ECU which I would estimate to be in the region of £200 does not look such good value as I have seen new DDE ECUs for the 75 and Freelander TD4 going for £250.

barcodes are only encoded numbers and letters. If you know the code then the barcode is quite easy to make.

IMO I would go new, least that way extracting the codes then reloading into new leaves little margin for error.

It's the code that we don't know.

However as Keith has stated.. They can be read from a T4.. I didn't know that..

Anyone on here know if the barcode is for the Key Circuit board OR the immobilizer chip in the key or both?

Both your original keys came with Barcode tags attached barcode at the top and the related number you punch in T4 at the bottom or 2 barcodes and numbers per key to be precise
A good owner would have stapled them in the owner manual

Chances are the Bar codes were used in the factory on T5 to speed things up as typing in two 15/16 digit strings is dead boring
