Default Rusty 75/ZT

Has anyone actually seen a rusty 75/ZT ?. I have not and I guess the answer to my question is not rocket science but why do they always look great no matter the age?.

Cheers
Tony

the bodywork always looks good even on neglected cars.the only spot on the saloon is where the boot meets the bottom edge of the rear screen, tend to rub the paint away on the inside edge

i have put some vaseline on the rubber at the top of the boot opening at each side. this stops it wearing the rubber out, and rubs onto the metal of the boot lid. this stops it going rusty.

Only rust I have had on any of my 75's and ZT..........................

Wheel bolts and a couple of boot bolts.

I can't remember seeing rust on any 75/ZT. Are they to young or just to well made?

Well my rocket science question was related to the latter of your one as I have seen many a car from the production period of our most cherished looking very sorry in appearance and being on the coast as they say the bodywork deteriorates quicker, that maybe a myth...There is a T plate 75 owned by a lady that just thinks the car is a car and no special attention is given to it, on the street where I work.

Cheers
Tony

I thought the 75 was galvanised. I have not seen a rusty on but the rear dog legs look a rust trap to me.

There are 2 small places on my 1999 saloon with a few bubbles:

Att the join between the chrome number plate light and the boot shell (in the middle) - very minor.

Where the side panel is welded to the fuel filler plate. There is a water trapinside the -petrol flap- Water doesn´t run off automatically if the car is stationary. It´s only minor. I think the car has stood parked for quite long periods of time.

I´ve put a thin layer of vasaline over the areas for the time being untilo I can carefully sand blast them. Haven´t found anything else. Not bad for a 11 year old car!

The only really significant rust I've seen was on the O/S/R wing around the chrome strip.
It had bubbled and holed although closer inspection showed that the car had ben fitted with a new rear quarter in its earlier life and these panels are often not rustproofed.

That was a Belgian import one we took apart around a year ago.
