Couldnt wait to get the seats sorted so spent today on them.

First the seats were washed

Then the leather was deep cleaned, dyed where there was wear and treated with food

I also had to repair the back pocket on the passenger side seat

The back was unclipped and removed

The broken tab causing the issue

I removed the pocket and gave the back and pocket a clean

Broken tab repaired using a spare tab nut a s a spacer and a self tapper into what was left of the tab. I have used this repair before and it is really strong.

and the back refitted

The seats are in the garage drying. I may fit them tomorrow jut need to change the electrical connectors over

Well done Jon, she looks absolutely gorgeous.

You've done one incredible job keeping her alive and not allowing her to be scrapped.

So when are you selling her, give me first refusal.

Thanks mate. She really was too good to scrap. First refusal to you if I ever decided to sell

As I have stated numerous times she is not perfect but now she has a new lease of life.

Yea I thought the same mate.. The seats were in very good condition considering their age. There was some mould on the rears which would suggest water ingress (how unusual) but they really were clean and tidy with minimal wear.

I will ask Paul the bloke who sold them about the donar.

Managed to get the final jobs completed today:

1. Clutch fluid changed and bled. I find this one of the harder jobs to do on a R75/ZT due to the position of the master cylinder still all done.

2. Sticking throttle was sorted and now runs smoothly

3. Gearbox oil changed and has made a massive difference

The location of the drain and filler/level. I have shown this picture with the filler undone so you get an idea.
a. make sure both areas are clean
b. I always undo the filler before the drain so you know you can get the new oil in
c. They do tend to be tight

The oil is then drained. I got just over a litre of dirty oil out (manual V6 gearbox hold 1.6 Litres).

The drain is then refitted and torqued to 35Nm. I made sure the car was level and always find it easier to fill via a hose from the top.

Hose fitted

and at the top with a funnel. Its always easier to fill this way under gravity into the gearbox.

I added 1.6 Ltrs of MTF 94. Just to make sure the level is correct I use an allen key as a dipstick

Fairly easy job really and made a lot of difference. This should be done every 4 x years.

Finally gave the engine bay a final clean

I also had to undo the drivers seat as I had forgotten to connect the seatbelt adjust cable last week

Now to book the car for its MOT and A/C re gas

I used 1.6 litres of MTF 94 as specified by MGR for these gearboxes mate.

I thought the gear change was a bit like moving the box through treacle but I was comparing that to the new Merc so was not sure. After changing the oil the gear change is sharper and much better to move through the box so I was very happy with the outcome.

Yea the funnel idea is the best way to fill. I have even used it on diffs.

Jon

Great thread and well done for all the hard work you have done on this car. A lot of time and effort has been put into getting the car to such a high standard, and hope it is all worth it, and well done also for getting it through the MOT, always a worrying time

Hopefully might get to see it in the flesh

Once again well done, a credit to you

Stu
