Default brokedown this morning

the car is a v6 auto
this is a strange one to me traveling home this morning all good then a sudden slight bang from the transmission looked down to the dash traction control warning light on rev counter not working display for gearbox gone still driving but stuck in top gear .will go into neutral and reverse but will only select top gear to go forward and bangs into gear , no strange noises , have not looked at it yet as i am on nights so just jumped into the zt.

if anyone has an idea let me know , must get it repaired for the POL in a few weeks ,

andy

Twisted pair wiring..... much easier than sorting out a new automatic gearbox

Well done

So all this disaster because of water ingress in some kind of wiring!, sorted out in just 30 minutes, which is great, however as I have pointed out in the past this kind of post is absolutely meaningless to people who are interested in the detail, so we can learn from the post, otherwise just directly message the 'experts ' on this forum so rest of us don't have to waste their time reading posts which are a meaningless.

This is so common on so many forums now, a collection of 'experts' and nerds exchanging posts for their own amusement, the rest don't get a look. I am growing increasingly bored with this forum, as so many posts are now of this kind. I regret to say, the forum is quickly loosing its sparkle!.

Thats a bit harsh. Maybe you should have politely asked for additional detail?

I agree that the criticism was a bit harsh, however perhaps Andy could have mentioned where he thought the water might have got in and where in the loom the wiring was affected. Just in case the problem affects someone else (not me, all mine are manuals!).

The tone of the original answer is obvious to me, no extra detail was ever forthcoming, instead a quick answer was being sought, and once the fault was corrected, then a quick vague post to acknowledge the fact that the problem was solved ( which is better than no post at all I suppose).
In any case why should I ask for more detail, when the idea behind the forum is to share information so as to learn from each other especially from the 'experts'. Surely the right thing to do is to post in some more detail exactly what was carried out, etc, so the rest of us non 'experts' can learn.
People should not get offended when they are criticized, instead they should be able to respond in a constructive way which negates the need for criticism in the first instance.
