I'm not keen on the 3 series either though, economical but costly to repair and service on the other hand I personally wouldn't have a KV6 engine car. The 75's are well built cars and a better friend in a collision than most euro box rubbish on the roads..each to his own though.

For some we love an older car. Yes we may like more power, gizmos, better cornering but we may want them in our car, not another car.
Just for the fuel saving do enough miles I can understand the change. Some of the op's comments make me wonder, joining a motorway and going up hill. Heck I drive a CDT with a caravan on the back and don't have trouble joining a motorway. The most important thing is that the BMW is liked and not a regretted purchase. I hope you continue to enjoy it. As for modern interiors, "any colour you like as long as it's black", gizmos, I'd never remember how to use them all macafee2 |

Well I only bought my ZTT as I was looking for a BMW 330 estate, but could not find one, and the MG was just too good a deal and car to turn down.
But I have always preferred Rwd cars so still on the look out for the right BMW..... |

I like the F10 BMW 3 series, but you can't compare it to a 75 which is much older, the new Beemer will perform better and handle the bends in a more dynamic manner as they are drivers cars, one thing i do feel is many German makers have chased the mass market with smaller models...eg 1 series, A class, A1s etc which i think has diluted their once premium image.
The 75 and the 3 series were in the same market, but appealed to different tastes with the 75 being comfort biased and the 3 series towards sharp handling. Both cars are very good at what they were designed to do. The important thing is you are happy with the BMW.

The Beemer's a very class act; economical, comfortable and goes like a train. I can see why people flock to it.
But it has absolutely no character whatsoever. I could easily be driving a Cortina. My sentiments exactly, re my Insignia. It has all the above, but no character, a lovely comfortable car, reliable, but boring.! I miss my Rover, but sadly we dont have the space for 3 vehicles, hard enough with 2.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that it's an Xdrive. We actually had snow yesterday and it was a really good experience being one of the only ones in the fast lane. I hasten to add that I wasn't being daft, but the car just felt incredibly sure-footed. Xdrive wasn't something I really wanted, as it now means I have to worry about a rear axle and CV joints to go wrong. Which is where I totally accept the "too many gizmos to go wrong" pov. Still, I'm sure it'll come in handy on maybe 3 days a year, haha. The reason I ended up with an Xdrive was because I found it incredibly difficult to buy a Beemer that doesn't have a black interior. I specifically wanted Oyster seats, similar to the beige interior of the Rover. I totally agree with the "black interior" comment and if that had been my only option, I just wouldn't have bought a Beemer. Where I'm minded to disagree with some of the comments though, is about the ride. Yes, it's sporty. And I now see why the 75's steering was judged as a weak point. But comparing my Rover, which has recently had new springs all round, to the Beemer, there's a big difference. The Rover is very crashy on serious potholes and the Beemer simply isn't. It feels like there's a big difference in unsprung weight to me, but what do I know? All that said, the Beemer, even though it's an M Sport, is really quite basic. The (biased, imo) press talk about plenty of soft surfaces in the interior. Erm, where? No power mirrors, which I thought was standard on any car now (the missus' Juke has them). No headlamp washers. No rear sunblind. A comment I made to a workmate, related my first impressions. The Rover cost around £26k in 2001. The Beemer was around £31k in 2015. And it shows. As I said, the Rover's a much better place to be. But, wow, the autobox on the Beemer is an absolute delight. Silky smooth and in sixth at just 30 mph! Changing to manual mode is a hoot and gentle acceleration means you're pulling on the stick like an F1 driver Which will soon prove tedious, unless you're caning the guts out of it. And then there's the thought of the cost of a replacement if it breaks Point definitely taken on the cost of major repairs. Still, I also accept the point that the choice of car comes down to what you think of yourself. I've always driven older cars and never seen the sense in buying anything particularly new. But I'm now mid 50's and still working 7 days a week. Tbh, I just think I'm entitled to drive something a bit newer these days. It's nothing to do with showing off and more about practicality. I hope that answers most points. One thing is for sure. I'll always have an affinity for BL/Rover. It's in the blood, I reckon. And I suspect I'll seriously miss the 75 later down the line. Oh well.

Haha, I can assure you my road manners are mostly impeccable (we all have off days, I'm sure).
Although in fairness, one of my first comments was that I now knew why BMW drivers seem like headless chickens. They're too busy trying to work all the superfluous gizmos out!
