If the sub and amp are currently connected to the high line, then I assume that this is done by cables being routed from the boot to behind the dash, and then the BMW connector you mentions connects into the Hi Line Head unit from these cables. Isn't it feasible then to leave the existing wiring in place, and simply adapt the connector to plug it into the new double din.

I did a similar modification with my rear dvd head rests where I spliced the wires to a car lighter power plug, and it worked a treat with little hassle.

I know this is different but trying to look for a simple solution.

Apologies David, I'm struggling with my terminology, I don't know my looms, from my harness's, and trying to gain an overall picture. I can build computers, and design websites, but when it comes to car audio / electrics I'm clueless. I'll get their in the end.

A spot of good luck I've found a guy on the other MG owners forum, Mr Ian, who's fairly local to me. He's very kindly offered to come and install the unit, and get the HK, aerial and all the other stuff working.

I breath a big sigh of relief and thankful there are so many good people on these forums!!!!

Hi

It would be very nice if you could post some pictures and explanations of the changing.

Cheers Mintman

Mint Man, I'll have the camera ready, going to make a very clear and concise guide on how to do this, as I'm sure there will be many others in my position, in fact I'm getting pm's already from a few people.

Further to this I have recieved the following advice from a fellow member Duotone so adding now in case it helps anybody:

First, look down the left side of the headunit, quite low down somewhere on a level with the ashtray you will find a large BMW plug and socket.

Part this cable and plug in a BMW plug to ISO converter lead.
Like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-ORIGINAL-R...item414d4c75ef

Parting the plug and socket and connecting your new double din unit to the car loom part of the BMW plug will supply power and connect the speakers to your new unit.

The HK system will still be used, but as to quality I dont know.

All you need then is a extention to the aerial, this is take from the radio module in the boot to your new unit.

I think a lot of us need pictures to understand how we can fit the unit. In my case (not speaking english very well), I'm really lost after reading all posts about this. When some members say this is a "10 minutes job" I think it's gonna be a "10 weeks job" for me.
It's not necessary a concise guide. Ten pictures better than a couple .

Thank you in advance.

By the way, Duotone's advice is only to fit HK, isn't so?

Don't worry I will take plenty of pictures, and try and make it as clear as possible.

The BMW plug for the Hi Line system is shown in this picture.

By connecting a lead that converts the BMW plug to ISO connectors should be all you need to connect your new double din unit for power, steering wheel control and speakers.

The aerial would at the start of the conversion be plugged into the radio module [in the boot]. Unplug the aerial wire and extend the cable to behind the dashboard and connect to you double din unit.

At the start of installation the steering wheel controls operate from a small white module located behind the TV head unit.
You may have to remove this to enable your double din unit to fit.

I am almost certain that Harmon Kardon system will still be in the circuit and will fully operate with your new system.

When Rover and MG Rover built the 75 and installed the wiring loom they used one loom for the radio system regardless wether the hi line/tv system or Symphony / Harmony radios were fitted.
The Harmony radio was connected straight to the BMW plug shown in the picture.
The Symphony radio used a converter lead, BMW to ISO.
The hi line system used a BMW male to BMW female to connect the modules in the boot to the car loom [car loom/BMW plug shown above]

Some later model 75's both mk 1 and facelift did away with the BMW plug [shown above] and used male and female ISO connectors.
There is no way of knowing which type [BMW or ISO] would be fitted except by having a look.
This is because there was a great deal of using up existing stocks of looms,
not until the Harmony radio stopped being used was the change in connectors accelerated.
