Default A noce car-related dilemma

Ever since Paul was a little boy my family always went to the same caravan site on the Lincs coast. As years went by they moved from a tourer there to a static. We had one there until I was made redundant five and a half years ago.

For a time me and mum went back to touring. Mum passed I was ill, well, it all went by the way side until I got my little folding caravan. Then I had problems last year with the site it was on, and I started looking at alternatives. I e-mailed our old site, as I miss it SO much, even now. I didn't hear anything, and eventually ended up on a small touring site up Derbyshire.

The site up Derbyshire is fab, and I even have my own garden. It's open 12 months and I have made a few friends there. However, its about £200 a month and going up again probably later this year. Last weekend, our old site finally replied to my e-mail that had apparently got lost in the ether. After 5 years they still remembered me. It was a lovely e-mail and I could tell they genuinely meant it.

I explained that I currently pay monthly, and probably couldn't afford a static and the ground rent up front. Today I got a reply that they would let me pay in instalments and their fee is £700 less than where I am. They also have a little static virtually on our old plot I could have for £1500...

My heart is screaming to go back there, but it may possibly mean a small loan. In the long run, though, with site fees I would be better off, and apposed to a tiny folding caravan with no amenities, I'd have two actual bedrooms, a loo, shower, cooker, fridge....but no garden. The van is straight onto a huge filed though, and I know from our previous one the sunsets over that are stunning.

So, small folder on a 12 month site with friends and close so no big fuel bills, or a static at the coast that my heart aches for and my common sense tells me is being daft???!!!!

Short and simple from me, follow your heart, life is too short.

Dawn,
There is no dilemma, despite the inconveniences of the site on the coast the positives far outweigh them. You will forever regret not going back to a place that is so special to you. Life is for living Dawn go for it.

Thanks guys. I'm also in two minds whether to let my Cavalier GLS go. I've owned it since 1990, but its dead money right now, probably won't come out the garage ever again - and Paul's ZT could be snugged up in there...

Maybe its time to just purge the old and enjoy the new...

Difficult choice. And I by no means want to throw cold water over anything but from our experience I am wary of going back and trying to recreate what went before. Revisiting something can sometimes be a disappointment.

What folding camper have you got Dawn?

Its a Rapido Orline folding caravan. Cute but no water or toilet which at £2500 to site is a bit much. The static is way cheaper rent. It doesnt make sense really.

We had a Sterckman folding caravan - as you say - no shower or loo but a great way to get away for a bit and easy to store.

I love the sugar cube looks of them!!

We took ours to the LR show at Billing and when we were leaving we dropped the first side down and as can sometimes happen - this startled passers by.

On this occasion tho, quick as a flash this guy came straight up, leaned in and said “I’ll have a 99 please!”

Lots of fun was had in this thing but we moved on to something bigger with bathroom.

Still regret selling it tho’ but actually made a small profit on it even after four years use.
