Default naught word drivers in the New Forest

I was spitting mad today.
Wife and I were walking along when an ambulance with headlights and blues flashing came towards us. No sirens.

There was a vehicle coming towards us quite some way in front of the ambulance, I gesticulated for them to look behind in the hope they would see the ambulance coming up behind them.

As they both passed with a large gap I turned to watch.
The vehicle did not move out of the way. The oncoming traffic did not stop and so the ambulance was held up behind another vehicle.

The road was straight with excellent visibility

eventually the vehicle I'd gesticulated at moved over and oncoming traffic stopped allowing the ambulance to pass.

Watching it unfold I was spitting mad and although no one heard me had a few choice words for the drivers.

you must make regular checks to see what is behind you, say every second lamp post, get to know that distance and use it when there are no lamp posts.

Daughter ( who does 999 ambulances) is worried she may have put on weight this last week or so as every hospital she has been to they have offered chocolates and mince pies

On at least two occasions, I've have indicated, pulled to the side of the road to allow a blues and twos vehicle to safely get past me - only for the car behind to slowly pull out and overtake me - directly in front of said emergency vehicle.
How can you be oblivious to flashing headlights, flashing blue lights, a strident siren and tons of bright red fire engine in your rear view mirror ???
