Auto gear knob and handbrake gaiter
OK; two mini jobs selected for the weekend; new auto gear knob courtesy of Rimmers for £12. Also a new leather gaiter for the handbrake off the bay
I have seen that the gear knob can require some excess forces. Any tips?? Anyone replaced the handbrake gaiter (looks straightforward but before I blunder in.......) ta |

For the gear knob, pull the gear shift fully back sit in the rear and pull upwards sharply and duck
That said mine came off quite easily whereas others can be a nightmare.

Surprise surprise...
Resurrecting a rather old thread...
And thank to @Arctic for explanations & pics. But surprise... my genuine fake walnut Rover handle back end came in another shape than expected! Possibly once more an evolution from early Cowley design to later Longbridge one, a kind of project drive knavish stratagem... Mine was fitted with a thin rubber ring. So I'd to imagine something to join handle & gaiter: a trick of mine with a chrome ring ended by a plastic lip glued upon it I found both in my bric-a-brac. It's nevertheless now fitted tight (and I might even go back to retrofit the leather handle without any difficulty) and here is the result! BTW better look that matches better my dash & wheel than the knob, but unfortunately it's a mocked walnut & real plastic bit that I was to pay a fortune - 85€ (£72.84 today shipping included) - when I only paid 53€ (£45.42 today shipping included) for the real wood knob after a bit of bartering! Fake more expensive than genuine?! methinks something's rotten in our trendy world...
