Default Cowley Sills

For anyone with a Cowley car...

Are the black sills Schutz'd (textured) all the way up to the bottom of the doors or does the Schutz work finish mid-way up the sills, as with the Longbridge cars? - I can see that the black paint goes all the way up to the doors, but just wondering about the Schutz work.

And, are the black sills in a satin finish?

I'm getting some work done on the sills and would like them finished in black as I always thought the Cowley cars looked better proportioned somehow

If anyone has any close-up pictures of the black sills and the finish between the sill and the door jambs, I'd love to see them.

Thanks,
Karl.

Mine are satin black and smooth all the way down.
I have a picture of the rear of the sill on thread below.

Hello Karl,

My Cowley sills are uniformly black up to the chrome rod just below the doors but I can't take any picture at the moment my phone being charging.

Regards,

Arnaud

Mine were originally black gloss entirely. Since having the jacking points done, I have applied primer, black gloss and a layer of Schutz type underseal from about 2" down from the chrome strip (Masking tape applied horizontally and then undersealed using a scouring pad to give the stippled effect, then tape removed to give clean edge.). The stippled effect is then just about at the curved profile for protection but without spoiling the glossed sill effect.

Thanks Pete, Arnaud C. & Mike. And yes, Mark, sounds like you have a Longbridge-built car with body-coloured sills (like mine, at the moment).

That pic gives a good idea of the finish, texture and lining of the black portion of the sills, Pete. That's what I'm aiming for.

Managed to find a Cowley car in local scrapyard today and took a couple of pics of the sills and rear bumper line, in case anyone else is interested..

Unfortunately, the body colour is dark (Royal?) blue, so the contrast isn't as pronounced as in Pete's pic.

Just need to relay this info to the paint shop now.

Note: The black on these sills may be somewhat faded as I believe this car has been sat for some time.

Cheers,
Karl.

hi karl yes sounds like a longbridge built car but the drivers back had rust on and was soft near the jacking point when i purchased the car but my local garage man is very good at welding so he sorted it for me.. i then purchased some jbh paint for it then sprayed it . ou cant tell it was ever there. funny really because the other 3 sills are fine it was just the one driver rear rgds mark

The rear offside always seems to be the one that goes first.

If you get a chance, Pete, that would be great. I'm interested to see the finish at/along the door jambs.

Cheers,
Karl.
