Default you can remove front or rear screen

FWIW, you can remove the front and rear screen of a saloon without breaking them.
I used this kit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PRO-CUT-0...72.m2749.l2649

My wife and I took the rear screen from a saloon. Alas I had hit the front screen and cracked it a month ago but the principle is the same.

When removing the chrome trim around the screen it is more then likely a number of trim clips will break but what does not break can be removed but you must be gentle. Also the clips around the screen can be removed if you are gentle. The chrome trim needs to be prised off.

Will take a trip to the scrap yard next time they get a Tourer in and try to remove the rear side windows.

BTW do you know the precise reference of those clips?
I can't figure them out because for me Rimmers website is a very maze where I can't always find all that I'm looking for.
It looks that my windscreen was changed sometime and that in the upper LHD driver corner one or two clips are missing so that the chrome trim isn't perfectly flat.

EDIT: Another question. How can I take off the cantrail roof finisher without breaking all the clips? My left one isn't perfectly flat & slightly bent at the front and it would be nice to put it right again.

Thank you so much mates.

Thumbs up

It would be so nice of you Ian.

I hope I will be able to swap a clip or two along the windscreen chrome trim and getting right the cantrail finisher without doing any harm.
Nothing can be found out as well in the Haynes guide.

Cool Hope this works

rear screen from a saloon.
The principle is the same for the front screen and I recall on the front screen rolling the side clips over towards the screen and they easily came off
I was breaking the car and had already removed parcel shelf and pillar trims. I suspect these do need to be removed anyway for removing the screen. I was working on a 1.8 petrol car for the following.

You may wish to consider getting replacement clips that hold the chrome trim in place as these are the ones most likely to break but be prepaired to get other clips

Most Rover 75 variants
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID002002
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID002000

or

v8 and 260
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID004338
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID004341

Disconnect the wires from the left and right side of the screen.
Disconnect high level brake light cable
Gently so you do not damage it, prise off chrome trim on outside of screen, I started from the bottom centre. Some clips will break.
Along the sides top and bottom of the screen are clips to hold the chrome trim in place.
I used this kit for cutting the bonding
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PRO-CUT-0...72.m2749.l2649

Side and top chrome trim clip
It may not be possible to remove the top ones due to lack of space. The side ones will come off.

Bottom clip for chrome trim. It is the white bits that break

To the left of the above picture is another clip. This also holds the boot seal in place and
cannot be removed with the screen in place. This too has a second blue clip in it, similar to this white one. See below. The black clip cannot be remove with the rear screen in place

To remove the side and top clips gently lever the arm with a small screw driver and then push clip, in this case, to the left and then lift off

From the kit, I used about 3 foot of wire. Push one end if the wire using a pair of pliers through the bonding in one of the bottom corners.
Do not pull upwards from the outside as you will rub against the glass. On the outside run the wire parallel with the side of the screen but at as shallow angle as possible.
I had my wife hold the handle from the kit on the outside of the car higher up the side then the inside handle.
As I pulled the inside handle up towards her handle, the bonding was cut. She would then gently pull her handle high again but not so to cut the bonding. I would then pull my handle to hers.
When you get to a clip that you could not remove, have the wire on the outside fed between clip and screen. Then pull inside handle along towards outside handle.

The inside handle was applying the force and cutting action, not the outside handle.
If the wire got stuck we used a sawing action to cut through but don’t try to cut quickly.

I’m hoping this has helped people.
