That's clear.
And I'd forgotten all this fuss I've read about road compliance, MOT legal, self levelling & spouts.
Phew!

To answer the original post, yes, projectors are better. The beam is better, so is the light output.

Finally I put those so called Xenon blue lights (120% efficiency of a standard bulb as they say) on my 25 and I should tell that they look perfectly good & rather efficient.
No blue colour at all, but bright white.
At the moment I can't honestly say whether they are better but they look pretty powerful for halogen ones.

Next Tuesday I'll drive at night on an usual country road and I'll be able to test them in an actual condition.
To be perfectly fair I took the opportunity to treat all four headlights with a complete session of Turtle Wax. The right outside one was a little glassy, the three other rather fine.
I'll keep you posted.

Thumbs up Phew!

So I fitted them in the afternoon.
2 hours and a half of strenuous work for my poor self...

Who's that mad engineer that imagined the way to fit those headlamps?
Another insane piece of design from MGR as a good many of them under a 75 ZT V6 bonnet!
Regarding the outside ones, I couldn't do without taking off each of the front wheels.

The right inside one is particularly awful to access to because of the steering fluid bottle and - as if it wasn't enough - the rigid A/C pipes.

Mind you that I haven't at all any thin & long fingers which would be mandatory to do such a pita job, but on the contrary large paws with rather short sausages! A damnation!

The worst side of that ghastly job is that I couldn't see & fit together: I had to watch & memorize then trying to do the trick gropingly without any ocular control or so little. And obviously you cannot touch any bulb to help you! No error is allowed...

But all is done and until the last minute before doing the test in the garage against the wall I'd an horrible feeling that any of them could fail & end by a dreadful red warning on the IPK...
But all of them are brilliantly working!
Can't wait the next step outside in real conditions...
But meanwhile I'll do a full Turtle Wax service on all the headlamps tomorrow.

Thank you once more @suzublu.

It depends on which half of the headlamp you want to improve. It may not be very clear reading the foregoing comments, that projector lamps, whether they're fitted with filament bulbs or with HIDs, are for the dipped beams only. The main bean lamps on both Mk1 and Mk2 models are reflector type and use standard filament bulbs. It's debatable whether the Mk2 is better than the Mk1 in this regard. Certainly converting a filament projector to a HID projector by installing a burner/ballast kit gains improved light output, but in the dipped lamp only.

The only way to gain HID light output for the main beam lamps is to effectively morph them from reflector type to projector type using a modular projector insert. This is a much more radical modification that involves opening up the lamp/lens casing. Doing this gives you HID power in both main beams and dipped beams. The inserts are typically dual function HIDs with a beam mask similar to the one in standard projectors. Here however, the mask blocks half the light (for dip beam) or none of the light (for full beam). This way, you get four dipped beams instead of the usual two. This doubles the dipped bean light output as well as the main beam output.

Hi T—cut,

It is the dipped beam I want to improve, the main beam are perfectly adequate. I'm considering Rick's quad halogen projectors.

Thanks

Rob

I thought I'd just copy in my reply to Rob when he PM'ed me regarding headlights:

Although the halogen projectors are better than halogen reflectors, they're still not that great. I've gone from having quad xenons on my ZT to halogen projectors which I currently have on my recently acquired ZT-T and had forgotten how poor the halogen headlights are, in the rain or when the road it wet it looks like I don't even have my headlights on.

If you want the best light output possible, the bi-xenon quad xenon projector upgrade I offer is the best performing option. This is where I fit an additional xenon projector to each headlight which gives you 4 x xenon dipped beams when you switch your headlights on, doubling your light output compared to standard xenons.

The next best option is the halogen quad projector option I offer, which is the same as the xenon option above except the projectors run halogen bulbs rather than xenon burners.

The next best option after that are factory xenons, followed by halogen projectors and then lastly reflector headlamps which are the worst.

Prices for my headlight upgrades are here:

Thanks
Rick
