new electric EQ Mercedes suv
The Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ just presented at the Paris Motor Show marks a historic moment for the German manufacturer. The introduction of zero-emission electric platform on which will be developed future models coincides with the announcement of the birth of the brand dedicated EQ (Electric Intelligence), who will take care of tomorrow's mobility both for the cars for both services connected to them. The first copy of the EQ range series will debut on the market by 2020 and will result in a direct way from the concept seen in Paris, confirming the intention to deal with electric mobility starting from the SUV segment.
New mobility concept. Connected, autonomous, shared and electric: these are the four pillars on which will build the new concept of self and transfers by Mercedes-Benz. For this reason, the EQ brand will handle the cars, but also the wallbox, the storage systems for homes, the car sharing services and everything to do with the customer experience and connectivity. Even existing services related to the infrastructure of public charging and to the world of electric models already on the market will be moved under the control of the new brand. The EQ models of electro-look. For the first of the new concept was, Mercedes-Benz has chosen the formula of the sporting SUV. The stylistic elements blend tradition with new solutions, such as the headlights and the front panel Black graphic pattern with LED technology. In Stuttgart they call "electro-look", intended to characterize all models with a personality injection and dynamism designed to attract the younger generation. The whole cleaning is enhanced by the absence of external handles and wipers, while the side is dominated by wheels 21 ". The interior has been completely redesigned with an asymmetrical design of the dashboard. The driver is dedicated the main display 24 "completely customizable and there are only touch controls, thus anticipating the new user interface that will be proposed by the EQ models. Citing the tradition, the only people left are those classic controls for adjusting the seats, typically Mercedes. the choice of colors Electric blue, White and Rose gold for finishing is replicated in the graphic on-board systems, identifying different driving modes and different levels of information. Each of the four passengers can rely on a single leather seat and on a dedicated speaker audio system, in addition to the TFT screen for the two rear seats, even if the space setting remains similar to that of conventional vehicles. Modular powertrain 500 km range. The new modular aluminum platform and carbon fiber integrates the powertrain with two electric motors, arranged on two axes to offer all-wheel drive, designed to offer up to 300 kW and 700 Nm total. Lithium batteries by "more than 70 kWh", made by Accumotive, are arranged on the floor and provide up to 500 km of autonomy, while the 100 km / h are reached from standstill in less than 5 seconds. The entire project is scalable, so as to adapt to various types of vehicles that the German company will offer in the future, be it sedans, SUVs, coupes or otherwise. 100 km of autonomy in 5 minutes. As for the recharging of batteries, the new platform will support the European standard Combined Charging System (CCS), with the goal of moving from the current 50-150 kW to 300 kW in the medium term. The goal is to ensure 100 km of autonomy with a 5-minute charging time. The autonomous driving. One of the key elements of the "Generation EQ" will be the autonomous driving, which will use the HERE maps for maximum accuracy and 3D representation of urban environments and points of interest. The car will be able to travel autonomously all types of route and, thanks to the "sensor-fusion" strategy, it will be possible to integrate between them the signals coming either from sensors on board both from the outside world, thanks to the Car-to-technology X, which will allow to communicate with other vehicles and with the infrastructure.http://www.quattroruote.it/news/conc...elettrica.html

This sort of technology will steadily become more common; new innovations have a higher price to help recoup the heavy upfront investment from new adopters and then come down as volumes ramp up. The upcoming Tesla model 3 will be about £30k or so in the UK - which is a fair step down from the prices for the Model X and Model S.
My understanding is this is not actually a 'pilotless' car - the navigation tech can talk to landmarks and other cars as well as understand the road ahead, adjusting speed and settings to help reduce driver mistakes and possible accidents. On that level it's potentially a good idea. |

A lot of gas stations in The Netherlands already offer electric charging. There are even poles so you can charge your vehicle for free on some parking lots. The CFO of the company i work for also has a Tesla model S and they have build some charging ports at my work so he can charge his car while working. Its becoming more and more common in Europe. |

If alot of these cars were charged at night alot less than people think. Probably only need a handful. Possibly none, the less petrol and diesel that is bought the fewer refineries that are needed. They draw huge amounts of power. That's a big saving there.
