Default Cheap Oil at Home Bargains

£9.99 for 4.5ltrs of 10w40 semi synth

they do fully synth for £13.99 as well but its 5w30

The brand is Viscol, has anyone heard of it?

It says UK manufactured on the label.

Edit

Just found this on another forum:-

just done some digging and its made by Rock oils Ltd in Warrington HB's are notorious for negotiating cheaper wholesale deals with suppliers and manufacturers hence rock oils supply it under a pseudonym label and separate PO box website so as to protect the main Rock oils brand image and pricing one thinks"

Sounds good, but would have to check the specs on the label before I chucked it in the diesel.

You need to buy oil cheap rather than cheap oil! Get a good spec that meets or beats the requirements of your engine.

The Diesels use fully synth don't they? (I've never owned one). Is 5w30 the right grade?

I use this Viscol oil in my 1.8t - I used expensive oil on my first change - since then, due to work being done on the car she's now on her 3rd lot of Viscol - my thinking is i'd like to change the oil at shorter mileage intervals, this Viscol oil allows 3 for the price of 1 over the oil i first used and i see no issues with quality.

I've been around oil debates for a long long time....

Personally i'd rather stick good quality fully synthetic in, you can buy a 5 litres can of Triple QX (the cheapest fully synth you can usually find) for around £20-£30 which even if your doing changes every 5k is still cheap

If you find VAG spec oil you'll see its more expensive then normal ACEA3/4 oil the VW 507 is the highest spec VAG oil for protection and anti wear etc.

Your paying for the detergents that go into it thats why VAG spec oil is more expensive because it has to meet higher more stringent specs, have a look at cold pour tests on cheap oils vs quality oils... theres also a few pour tests on used oil and fresh oil from quality and cheap brands... big eye opener
http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html
It really does make a difference, temperature break down etc etc... cheap oil is also reused waste oil thats refined.
Each to there own but my MG gets 5w-40 Gulf Esther racing synthetic oil and my GT-R gets either Motul Xcess or its recommended 0w40 Mobil one

Rock Oil is decent stuff, used to put it in my Ducatis . The ZT got 10w/40 semi-synth to ACEA A3 and ACEA B3 spec a couple of weeks ago as per the handbook.
