So tonight I have replace the ECM and EWS from donor vehicle (rip!) and swapped the key chips and voila started first time and without issue. So I know that it was the accidental bath that the ECM took many months ago had caused problem, though I still wonder if the suspect crank sensor wiring might have contributed.

Anyway I've learned lots about how the diesel 75 is put together. Thanks to everyone whose offered suggestions and ideas, they've all helped. Now of course I'm looking at diagnostic solutions so can try to ID these sort of issues earlier. VT4 or TOAF. VT4 may not work now well now that I've swapped ECM and EWS as VIN won't match....

And of course, newbees and everyone who doesn't do it regularly, check your Plenum!
VT4 won't work as the EWS VIN is not that of your car

You could of course have the original ECM sorted out properly, that way the ZCS coding will be correct

C'mon Finbarr - what is it? I think we should be told.

Also, I'm bored.

P5B? P6 Estate? SD1? V8?

Blimey - what is it - 4 Series?

There were a few P6 estates produced by a specialist coach builder you know... this was my friend's at my wedding a long time ago!

Sorry about the thread hijack (at least it's still a Rover). I'll go to bed now.

Nah, no apologies needed, it's a 416 Sli tourer, no blind spot A Pillar, or leaky boot/sunroof, and the temperature gauge is not a chocolate fireguard either

I hark back to a time where I owned a 3500S in white, that was a 1975 model too
